I am putting on my stainless steel braided brake lines tomorrow, and I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on brake fluid. What is the difference between DOT 3 and DOT4 fluid, and which one should I use. Also, is any brand better than another? Thanks.

Im 100% you should use dot 4.

Im pretty sure Dot 3 is usually used in cars and other things. The difference between dot 3 and 4 is the heat it can take and its resistence to build up moisture which is very bad for the brakes bc it will corrode everything. But on quads you should use dot 4. As for brand name i just went to my dealer and got the honda stuff for 4 bucks and its a pretty big bottle. It could fill up the from and rear ressivours(sp) 10 times each.

Dot 4 or Dot 5 would be better to run. They have a higher boiling temp. which helps to eliminate brake fade under heavy use. However, cheap skate that I am - I have run Dot 3 with no problems (except for TT racing) for over 10 years.

Don't forget that pumping the front brake will NOT push the fluid to the calipers..you have to suck the fluid down to them..;)
