i sold a set of basic elkas for a set of stock 450r shocks. you will be happy over the ex shocks for sure. cant find a nicer shock for a better price either i paid 150 shipped for mine off a 08 450r.

more bottom end you could drop a tooth on your front sprocket and get a 14 tooth. you will have quite a bit more. also you could get a cam. a sparks key. you could get a 450r carb. you could throw a hi compression std bore piston in there. you could give it a stroker crank. there is lots to do it depends on how much power you need and how much you want to spend to do it the sparks key is cheap and new front sprocket is cheap.

Would the stage 1 hot cam work good and will the sparks +6 key make it start harder?
What about the wiesco 10:1 std bore pistion?
How about a mild port and polish?

the 10:1 piston is good with a stg 1 or even 2 cam, you will notice a nice bit more power there. you have it ported and it will really liven it up. your looking at like 250 in parts and another 1-5 hundred depending on your port job. plus labor if you dont work on your own stuff. its alot cheaper to start off with a smaller sprocket and the sparks key, it would cost you about 50-60 dollars to do both and take you maybe 3 hours tops if you are even slightly mechanical. the sparks key is quite a noticable gain for a 30 dollar part that takes 2 hours to install with a beer break in the middle. lol and a 14 tooth sprocket will take 10 min. and cost you about 20 dollars. how much power do you want because for 7-900 in parts and labor you could sell your 400 and throw the extra money in and buy a 450. it all depends on how you want to work it. how you ride and how you like your machine.

With a good 426 kit you can put down more power to the wheels than a 450r and chances are it will be a more reliable machine. Also, might want to see what year his EX is. If it's an '05+ he'll already have a 14 tooth sprocket on the front.

id do a 10:8:1 je 416 piston with a stage 2 hot cam.you can still run it on pump gas and itll still be reliable.you might want to put a crf450 timing chain to while your in there .p&p isnt going to do very much unless you have a bigger carb and aftermarket header

id just do the 416.that way when its time to rebuild again you still have another bore before you have to resleave. another 10cc's isnt going to make much difference anyway.itll run cooler to
