this is the HPI savage, which is 2" longer and wider then the tmaxx. the tmaxx uses a .15 motor, this uses a .21 ( yes i know the tmaxx is a ".25" but that is not the size of the motor.) its big!

The tmaxx isnt called .25, its 2.5, and no traxxas was trying to get people to think the motor was 2.5, but its still just a .15...

tmaxx are nice, it was a tough choice on which to buy.... if the savage had reverse right out of the box,, there would have been no choice.... savage all the way. i sat in the show room playing with the 2 rc's(not running) for about 1 hr. i did a bunch of thing... i dropped both from about 5ft,.. the savage seamed to land smoother,.. i know the savage weighs more.. but it also has a bigger motor and bigger overall. and now that HPI has released the reverse module( i have one on the way) it make the choice clearer... the savage is also cheaper(not much) when buying everything you need to run it(starter kit, fuel, dont need any special battery pack to start it,..) and i dont mind having to start it buy hAND(ive not seen the need in electric start for a lawnmower, so why start now) dont get me wrong, the tmaxx is also an awsome rc, but i just liked the savage better.

Thats because its not a 1/10th scale r/c truck, the Savage is 1/8th scale I believe, and although the motor is bigger its still not faster than the Traxxas 2.5 engine. I still like the Salvage..it was the only other truck I was going to consider, but the T-Maxx won me over...reverse, electric start, millions of hop ups....well...you get the idea :p

my friends all have hopped up T-Maxx's, one around 700$ worth of stuff, including the truck, and they are all selling them, they HATED them, break to much, they basically said, WASTE OF MONEY, fun while running, i have a chopper than i have yet to fly after 2 years, it broke before i even got it togather, lol

like i said,,, i like the tmaxx... its awsome... but i dont need electric start,.. and i have the rev. mod on the way. Being only a couple months old... i think the savage is doing pretty good. (aside from suspension) i think the biggest factor for me, was looking at what the hobby shop had, for rcs needing to be repaired. they said they have very few savages come in,..(none on hand) BUT right behind the counter(not even in back with the rest of the repairs) there was 4 tmaxx rc's sitting there in pieces. Anyone from the VA area know of clubs/ races?

yeah my friend just got a savage and just got it broke in. he said it's pretty awesome, he was gonna get the maxx but they have a bad history of breaking a lot. the reason why there aren't 18 million mods for the savage yet is because it's so new. i can get a link from him tonight to a site that has pictures of TONS of stuff their gonna be selling here shortly. in the nitro monster community they're saying that the savage is going to be the next maxx...so who knows. hehe i want one but thats a lotta money for a lil truck like that. especialy since the 400 is still mostly stock. i at least want exhaust, then a 416 kit cam, ect hehe. so after i spend the 2gs or what ever on the 400 lol i'll think about one.

My bro has an E-maxx, which is the same as a T-maxx but its electric. It has two motors and a 2 speed tranny, it f-cking flies. He just bought seven cell batteries and now it will do close to 40 mph. I used to have an RC10GT, Nice truck but the damn thing broke waaay more than it should've. Gas R/C cars are a pain in the @ss to maintain in my opinion. The E-maxx is easilly faster than my old RC10GT, and all we have to do is charge it. It has broken chassis parts before but my brother jumps this thing like 6-7 feet in the air with flat landings. Fun toy to have :D

I used to have an RC Car magazine, like 5 years ago, and they took one of those Kyosho Nitro USA-1's, and built it all up. They put dual .21's on it I think? Lots of little anodized pieces and stuff. It was a piece of work, I thought. I used to have this little catalog of RC Motors...There was this one rotary motor, had like 5 little tiny cylinders... I always wanted to buy that motor for a project road race car, would have been quick, really quick.

my lil brother just got a HPI Rush 2x4 and that thing rips lol. its so fast it makes me laugh. its hard to drive cause i cant control the dang thing. when ever i get on it the car just breaks loose and powerslides like crazy. they are the funnest things i have driven in a long time.

Hey Maxx Racer, that Tamiya Bruiser is one rare truck!!

I have a Tamiya Fox and an original Kyosho Ultima, but haven't run them in years. I would like to get a hold of some other older R/C cars preferably NIB or in really nice built condition, including a Tamiya Holeshot, Tamiya Clodbuster (still in production), Kyosho Optima, Kyosho Gallop, and a Kyosho Mint Las Vegas.

Recently, I've been looking into getting a nitro touring car or rally car.

Here's a list of what I've been considering:

HPI RTR Super Nitro RS4
HPI Nitro RS4 Type SS
HPI Super Nitro Rally

I really like these cars because the bodies available with them are pretty realistic.

I would like to get a RTR if possible, so right now I'm leaning towards the HPI Super Nitro RS4 with the Murcielago body.

How difficult are these kits to put together? My Tamiya Fox wasn't too complicated, but my Ultima was a pain to get running right.

Do you guys think I should go with an RTR or just get a kit?

The RTR super nitro is also supposed to be easier to drive, and the fact that it's bigger should allow it to clear bumps and pebbles easier. However, if I got a super nitro rally, I wouldn't have to worry about this, plus I could take it off road if I wanted to.

The Nitro RS4 Type SS comes with shaft drive and a two speed transmission, and the Super Nitro Rally also comes with shaft drive, however the RTR super nitro is belt drive. Should I avoid belt drive???

I figure that if I get an on road car, I'll have less of a tendency to set up a monster ramp and launch the car skyward...that always led to broken stuff! :D

Some insight would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,

Jordan
