1996 is an A-arm frame.

There is nothing wrong with J-arm frames. The people that usually talk bad about the J arms, usually never owned one and just heard a horror story somewhere.

The J-arm frames were made from 87-90. Supposedly some were produced in 91 too.

Basically, instead of having an upper "A" that goes in front AND behind the shock, there is a "J" That is just in the shape of a J that goes around the front of the shock.

Pros-
-J-arm bikes are 14lbs total lighter then A-Arm bikes.
-J-arm's handle slightly better... less sprung weight.
-Look cool

Cons-
-Wear out the arm bushings a little faster.

Here's a pic of my stock J, and then a pic of my aftermarket J. I have an 89.

J arm frames are deffinatley a bit lighter and theres nothing wrong with them other then supposadly eating the bushing a little quicker but im not sure I havent owned an A arm banshee yet. My bike was a J arm bike and I loved it and had no problems with it, some people will tell you the break and bend and fall apart ect. but in my personal experience none of it has ever happened to me. Theyre actually quite valuable to the drag racers who want the weight savings. If you buy after market J arms the way I see it theyll be just as good as bikes with after market a arms but lighter.
