tail light confusion

Ive had my ex for 4 years and never cared enough to put another tail light on it, well yesterday I finally remembered and put one on. The stupid thing only comes on with the lights, what the hell I thought it was suppose to be a brake light,

Well has anybody thought of a clever way to install a microswitch or something to make it a brake light?

If you get a 450R front master cylinder you can do this.

Friends of mine have leftover 08's, they seem to have a brake light/tail light as it lights up when they hit the brakes.

So what gives? I thought all 400ex were just tail lights?

ok first of all, all honda front brake master cylinders have the same spot on the bottom of them for that factory honda switch.

dont go buying a 450r one cus it aint no dif.

second if you order the switch, order the wire that connects the switch to the harness, (this is a 450r only part) and you will save alot of time and it will look clean and professional.

3rd, you can use any 3 wire switched tail light for this you dont need a expensive one unless thats what you want.

you can also wire up an banjo switch for the rear brake to have a light too. i only put one on my front.

you can even just wire up your factory ex tail light to be switched so when you hit the brake the light just comes on, and then turns off without no driving light. i did that for a while until i could afford to buy a nice brake light. i suggest led if you dont mine the price.

I copied a few others and did an r6 tail light (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-YZF-R6-03-05-YZF-R6-Black-LED-Rear-Tail-Light_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27ab735dc7QQitemZ 170380189127QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories ) on my brothers. I used a piece of box tube to change the horizontal mounts on the tail light to the vertical ones on the 400. Then just test and find out which wire is for brake and which is for tail light and wire it up accordingly to your quad. There are some walkthroughs on here.
