I am trying to get my quad back together and its back to a rolling chassis minus the rear shock and linkage. My problem is that the wiring harness is a bit mangled and I am not sure if I should look for a replacement harness or try to fix the one I got. At one point someone installed a Answer roost boost on it I remember seeing those when I was a kid! What are your thoughts and does anyone make a replacement harness?

Oh man I think might be able to get the salt out of my wounds Lol. At least you didn't tease me with pictures of it but they might help with building a harness.... I never rode the quad bfore tearing it down due to a cracked frame and broken mount for the motor. So I have no idea if it makes a difference or not

88 and 89 harnesses are still available, don't try and repair a hacked harness. I'd get a new one or atleast a good UN-CUT, UN-MODIFIED, NOT BUTCHERED stock harness. You will thank yourself in the end.

That is what I have been looking for is a nice harness thats not hacked up or junk but I seem to be having a hard time finding one that is in good shape. Is the 88-89 the same as a 87?

88 is the same as 87 and the only difference with a 89 one is the stator connectors.

Check ebay, lots of guys parting out stock machines with uncut harnesses.

For reference 86 plug is different than 87/88 but I believe they will fit, and 89 stock plug is different and only works with an 89 harness.

Thats where I've been looking and they have been in the 60-110 range. Service Honda wants 115 for a 87 harness new so I think i will keep looking and try to see what I can find

wrong again, a 89 cdi is the same as a 88 cdi and fits a 86 atc cdi plug also, I imagine it would fit a 86 or 87 trx also. The only difference between a 88 and 89 harness is the stator plugs. The 87 harness is discontinued anyway, you would have to get a 88 harness if you wanted new anyway. I bought a new harness ~3 years ago, light switch and such, complete electric for a 250r. I got the 89 stuff, but most was the same as 88 and available also.

This should help. I just rebuilt mine last night it is not that hard to do. Things to keep in mind. Start where the four wires come out of the engine. Conect them appropriately. Per diagram. For the tail light brown is power. All greens with exception of the green black coming off engine are just grounds. So you can connect all of the grounds and run one wire to the frame as a ground. Route it as it would have been done. All you need is some multicolerd spools of wire. Red green and black should work, a soldering iron and some solder. Pretty easy really.

In the back I removed some stuff because I really only needed power and ground for the taillight. Also this is not my quad these were posted in some other posts and one I made the other day.
