How can I tell if hrc cam is 04/05 or 06+?

04-05 has 3 rings on the end of it, seems like the 06 up may have i wide ring, but I am sure on the 04-05.

You are correct. 3 rings on the early model, 1 fat ring on the later. If you have them side by side, there is a huge difference in lobe height as well, early having much more.
