View Full Version : wat is a good gear ratio for GNCC racing and should i have more topend???

frist off im new to this site but i have a 2004 400ex 11:1 comp stage 1 cam and carb spacer also port and polish an carb specs are .40 slowje needal droped all the way down and a .155 mainjet. an i am currently running a 14/38 but i am not sure i was thinking mabe a 16/37 or 36

i would say that 15/38 would be a good option for gncc stuff. it is not too low but not too high either to have to worry about riding through the woods. just my .02 though, steve

yea ull proll be fine with stok or a 15 up front the only way to know is to go ride and see if you like ur ratio or if you want it higher or lower

i race xc ran a few gncc races also i run a 13/38 sproket combo, gives me that holeshot power in 2nd gear hardly ever use 1st. it also gives me that power for the hill climbing, you hardly ever need topend speed. but maybe a 14/28 might be a little better though.

Bill b. top Gnnc racer said in interview he uses 14-38 gearing and he has a very modded motor so 15 up front IMO is too much top end and takes away lowend for woods racing

this is for a 400ex tho they dont rev as high as a yfz so the lower gearin equals out with the stock gearing on a lower revving machine
