Soon I'm going to have all my other projects finished and will be able to tear into my 250r that I picked up last year. Now the a-arms on it are old JP racing, and I believe +1 (going by measurements compared to others given to me). Well a long story short, I'm not sure if I want to stick with them or just go wider. I'm just curious on what are advantages of going to other sizes. The bike is an 89. The swingarm is also from JP, but I'm not sure of its length (would need to measure it up).

I'm looking to do a mix of everything with it, MX TT and just rec riding.

Is there really any difference between manufacturers of aftermarket arms? Also +2 +1 seems like a common setup. Just curious as to what the advantages are to all these different sizes offered.

I would go with +2+1 and get different wheel offsets. Put the mx and tt tires on 3/2's and xc/trail tires on 4/1's. I ride a +3+1 and +3+0 on my 250r's and trails aren't fun at all, some trails its so close, that either side rubs the trees. I use 4/1 rims(narrow ones) also. The brand of a-arms matters alot, I have pro-trak(leager) and Roll Design. Two different animals in how they handle.

Look up fullflight racing, theyr also on ebay. Fully adjustable and they have a lifetime warrenty. I took a spill off a 25ft cliff and it landed directly on my left front wheel. I bent a tie rod real good but thats it. I sent it in and they sent me 2 back! No questions asked. THe only downside is the powder coating will come off if you need to use pliers or anything. Btw did I metion theyr only about $365? Way cheap compared to others, and they sit a bit lower than others which is good. Im very happy with them

Ok I took pictures of my a-arms. Now are these +2 or +1? After looking it over I think they are +2, but I may be mistaken.

Also is it true that 88/89 frames moved the arms forward by an inch, and thus +1 forward arms are less crucial?

they probably are +2 a-arms. They could be +1(uncommon). I measured a set of stock a-arms and I have 13" from ball joint to end of a-arm, same way you are measuring them. The way you measured them really isn't a accurate way, measure them straight, not at a 22 degree angle.

Ok removed the ball joints and measured them straight.

they look like +1, my stock bottom a-arms, measure 12" the same way yours are w/o ball joints(same measuring point)
