Does it matter?

Just a thought that popped into my head as I was putting my chain on today. Does it really matter what side of the chain the master link clip is on. I always run mine on the inside of the chain closest to the swing arm, but I've seen people recently with the clip on the outside closest to the wheels. I know the closed end is supposed to be facing the front of the bike.

i run mine to the sprocket side, so i can see it easier,but closed end to the front of bike like yourself.john
