Cylinder question

Whats the reason for the o-ring around the bottom of the cylinder?...I kinda cut it a tad bite removing the old base gasket material.

i always wondered this too, i think it is so oil doesnt work its way in between the sleeve and the cylinder, mine snapped when i took it apart one time and i never bothered putting one in and i didnt have any problems.

It is so oil does not get in between the sleeve. Good idea to put one back in if you ruined the old one. Some people say you will be fine without one, but not worht ripping the motor apart for a 4.00 dollar item. Some people will also use high temp silicon in place of the o-ring. Hope this helps. Just got done rebuilding my motor and I put a new one in.
