Look and see if someone installed the resistor kit for the charging issue. Should be mounted just below the voltage regulator. I they did thats why your lights are not working.

the resistor kit wont affect the lights just the battery which in turn makes the lights not work but then it wouldnt start...my guess is check the instrument panel for continuity at the switch

ya the switch is working it turns the tailight on and off and when i test it with a test light one relay turns on with the while flipping the high and low and the other turns on with turning on the high does this mean my realys are bad ..... keep in mind im testing the plugs that go into the relays im not getting flip while in the relay for power to come out... is there suppose to be a constant hot somewhere on those relays if someone has a wiring diagram please post it or where i can download a manual.. thanks...

The resistor kit doesn't make the lights work or not. It fixes the charging problems that were only on the '04 and '05 models. The resistor makes it so you don't have to ride with the lights on to charge the battery. It sounds like he is having some other kind of electrical problem.

Maybe the resistor went bad. My brother bought a brand new '08 out of the crate and we got it home and started to ride it some and the headlights stopped working. The resistor got moisture in it and fried it. I would check to see if you're getting power to the resistor.

I think it's under the hood in the front mounted to the frame.

Ya I printed it out and stuck it in a binder so its easier to use. If anything gets ruined I can just reprint it.
