Hey all, i'm looking to join the LS1 ranks sometime this week. i found a local (to my school) 99 formula with 83,000 and an aftermarket ws6 lookalike hood. seems to be just what i'm looking for. just wanted to share my excitement

nevermind.. carfax was not pretty. a total loss was reported, air bags deployed, and severe damage occurred. :(

So I take it you finally got ahold of the guy?

i'd stay away from that then. doesn't look too bad though :ermm: talk about that a lot to the guy selling it maybe you can get it pretty cheap.

I would still buy it depending on price.. As long as there is no frame damage or anything it won't be bad at all.. Everything else is just bolt together.. What kind of damage does it say happened...? If it drives straight and all the body panels line up and the car doesn't vibrate I would say what the hell if you can get it for a good price...

i just don't think i'd want it on my hands when it comes time to sell it. salvage titles cut the value of a car in half.. so unless he'd get rid of it for like 3250, i'm going to keep looking. something else will come along.

dont give up looking. you have been at it for a while. cars are like women. the best ones come along when you least expect it.

That's true but in the meantime you could use it as your everyday car and when you save up some money you can turn that into your project track car... Just an option thou...

I can understand if you don't want to get involved with a car that was hit...

carfax ruined my day.. again. this one has major title issues. apparently it was a buyback when it had 15,000 miles on it. it has 115k on it now, so apparently its been fixed, but my dad isn't going to loan me the money i would need unless its a completely clear title. i love the car, but i really don't want any title issues. car god hates me lately. oh well, at least i have a new desktop background. i'll find one..

Keep looking. The right one will come along eventually. They're awesome cars.

Oh and that white one looks like it's at a dealership? I would assume they would hand you the title and such.

the white one has a branded title. lemon/manufacturer buyback.

lmao the way the shades on the car makes the top half look lighter. All the paint is the same.

It does have a little typical clear coat fade on the top of the rear quarter panels though. It drives me nuts. haha. Ima have it wet-sanded to blend eventually.

DMC, is your firebird a six or a v8?

these cars tend to have a really faded paint look depending on how the sunlight hits it, especailly the plastic fnders and bumpers.

Just be careful on which f-body you look at, i got screwed on a 70k mile formula firebird, i thoguht it was all good, and turns out with was a beat up pos that make all sorts of nosies after i drove it home, i thank god every day on how kind the people i bought the car off of were nice enough to give me my full purchase price back after i had to get it roll backed the 3rd time. the car was beat up by some young kid probably. Of course i had a young kid moment when looking at this car and didn't take my time and just rusehd into gettign the car. I've learned my lesson. My black one is MINT times a million compared to the red one.

And the carfax checked out perfectly fine, but that obviously didn't help me. hell the car even had mis aligned body panels.
here is the POS

By the way it was the FASTEST piece of crap i've ever driven, i loved the power and all, hated the rest of the car reliability wise and condition.

yes i realize that its the nature of the beast with these cars, but i'm kind of past the young kid stage. im not really in any rush. i won't come near an lt-1 with a 10 foot pole, i want t tops, good trans, raised rear spoiler, and im still debating on the ws6 thing. they are just so hard to find in my price range. i still have a lot of looking ahead of me. i also realize that a carfax can come back clean and there is still the potential for problems. however, carfax helps to steer you away from any major physical or legal issues before you get too deep into it.

why no lt1? i love the down low torque of my lt1! whats your price range? depending on the price range you can find a sweet ram air ws6 lt1 :D

x2. They made a ram air WS6 trans am lt1. Same transmissions as the ls1's too. (T56, 4l60e)

LT1's are no slouches either. With a few bolt ons they were just as fast as the ls1's.

the foxbody in the garage is my brothers, he picked it up for 500 bucks, ran and drove and all, its an '86 auto, with something like 170k miles i think, its got the 302 H.O engine, he tore out the engine and is replacing all the seals and gaskets and going to put it back in and clean it all up, the interior will get some freshening up too. The sweet part about it is it didn't burn a drop of oil! I think he is planning on selling it when he gets it all fixed up actually.

Also piepeless416 what are the specs on the car? and if you dont mind me asking how much did you pick that beast up for, it looks mint!

Thats a good price for an LS1.

But yuck.. automatic?:ermm: I know they can be made to go faster then manual.. but it takes everything away from a sports car imo..

auto's are known to be consistantly faster in a straight line 1/4 mile, nothing can shift faster than an auto. the downside to an auto is it can get pretty boring to drive unless you add a stall converter. I'm extremely glad i found an M6 i like feeling like of having complete control of the almost 300hp and 335ft lbs of torque:macho

Terminators are nice...I wouldn't mind having one as a street car...I have an 07 GT with a blown motor can't wait to get it running again...

I know, that's what I said. lol. All pro drag cars use automatics with shift kits. Just bang the gears with a slap shift.
My whole point was they aren't nearly as fun

the dash has a crack in it that i'm going to fix first.. beyond that it'll eventually get a volant CAI, magnaflow exhaust, zo6 rims, eibach pro springs, and maybe a ws6 hood way down the road. nothing too crazy. i don't even need the power it has.
