Going to buy my 1st Quad.

I'm in the market for my first TRX 250r. I have rode around on the ATC but never on the TRX. Anyways I am not very savy with quads. What are somethings I should look for? How should I even start to look?


[Edit] My budget is 1500-2500 dollars.

Hey man im an atc guy too.I have an 85/86 atc 250r,and an 82 model. I got an 86 trx last april and its been under construction since. Im an aftermarket 250r person. and if you buy one with a stock frame,look at the pivot bolt area,the subframe and the front shock mounts for stress cracks.....If i had that budget, i would look for one with the most aftermarket parts on it i could find and ofcourse good shape. But don't plan on finding completely decked out quads in that range...but you might get lucky....look on craigslist for the better deals....heres a pic of my trx,its from december...i have gotten a few new parts for it since then...I am waiting on some AC blackline propegs to come in.....http://i45.tinypic.com/242aq1e.jpg

case around front sprocket area, bent wheels,bent axle,frame for cracks,bent shift shafts,swing arm cracks. raise it up on a jack and check axle bearings,swing arm bearings,a-arm bushings, ball joints, tie rods. just check it over good. ride it, take as much plastic off as you can and look it over. raise it up on the back wheels and grab bar(stand it up) and look at it. the more parts it has on it for whatever your gonna use it for, the less you will have to buy later. your gonna get addicted!!! have fun, show us pics if you can before you buy, we will let you know. if you buy it first we still wanna see it.

looks pretty fair to me. nothing in tenn. craigslist like that for that price. i would still offer less just to get a better deal. hard to tell from the pic, but looks mostly original. wonder why it hasnt sold yet?

are stock plastics desired by TRX 250r owners? Personally, I think they are ugly and would like to replace them/trade them.

I'm figuring prices would be lower during the summer because people don't want to ride in 110 degree heat you know?

I don't live in tuscon but I am pretty close. Only 80 miles so i could road trip it. How fast is the 250r compared with the TRX 400 and TRX 450?
