new to forum...have transmission issues

just got at 96 300ex with transmission problems. 3rd gear is the worst. it slips back into 2nd or false neutral. 1st gear skips under hard accel. i know i will have to split the cases but just wondering what it might be... or if i can swap out complete bottom ends with a 250x i would prefer kick start anyway.

You could swap out the bottom end with a 250x but then you would have a 250x not a 300ex. The 250's motor has a shorter stroke than the 300 making it 249cc. There is a guy on here selling a 288cc 250x motor that would be prety nice.If you get a bottom end I would look for a good 300ex bottom end.

before you split the case I would check the rachet pawl. Usually when it has a false neutral theres a good chance the rachet pawl is the problem. It could also be the drum or a fork.

I got a good bottom end for a 250x if your interested. I will let it go cheap.

Studster is correct...if you swap out the bottom you will have a 250x. You will also need a 250X CDI. Everything else will work.
