front springs

Does anyone know if you can replace the stock spring on the front shocks with a softer spring or even dissassemble it an cut a portion of the spring off to soften them up? These shocks are on a polaris 90.

Has anyone ever did anything like this?

no one has any other info or has did anything like this before? I am going to disassemble the shock on monday and cut a portion of the spring off. I will let everyone know how it turns out.
