450R Shock Resi Notch?

I bought a set of 450R shocks off ebay. I've never looked at 450R shocks up close, but uppon inspection I found that the Resi on each RH & LH side has this notch. Is this factory?

I just looked at the 4 shocks I have here and none of them have that.
Not sure why someone would do that. Were they rebuilt at some point?

Not that I know of. I bought them off ebay so I don't know the full history. I can tell you what I was told by the seller was that these were "New Takeoffs" from a 04-05 450R that were never ridden on. I know they have been ridden on because there is mud and dirt in the threads, but that doesn't bother me as much as these notches.

Well it could be that they did that on the early shocks, all mine are 07, so that could be the difference.
Maybe someone with an 04-05 will chime in.

I have an '04. Just went out to the garage to check... No notches.

I appreciate it guys. I figured it was someway of marking them for some reason. I'm going to go on and install them and see how they ride. Worse case I have to send them to GT Thunder a tad earlier than I had planed, and have the reworked right. Again thanks for all your help

They may have been used on a 400ex....

I`ve heard some knotching in the upper mounting area may have to be done.

The resies may have rubbed.

No the rezzys don't touch the bike I had them on my 06 I just had to grind top down. Ps I looked at mine I had out in my trailer and they don't have a thing like that but I see no reason why it would hurt it
