oil check in my 400ex?

hello everyone. just changed the oil and filter in my 2002 400ex, and refilled with 2 quarts. i just went out to check it and its just a little above the lower level of the dipstick. the quad wasnt run so it was a cold check. is that where its supposed to be or no? thanks

On the 400ex you absolutely MUST check it after it has ran for around 5 minutes at least.

The dip stick is in the oil tank. If you let it sit all the oil drains out of the the tank into the engine.

You got to let it run for a while so you get a good reading

the manual says to let it run for 5 mins then let it sit for 5 mins. (10 mins if the air temp is below 50 degrees)

then check the oil by inserting the dip stick without screwing it in.

alright thanks, appreciate it. it was the first tiem i changed it. i recently bought this 400 and i drained the oil and it came out like a greyish creamy looking color. so i put new oil in and filter rode it for a few hours and checked the dipstick and it was some what grey again, so i am changing it out again tomorrow. my thought is water go in some how?
