well yesterday i went to downsize my jets again because it was running to rich still. when i went to take off the carb the intake boot broke so no problem i ordered a new one and for the time being i sealed it up with some sort of gasket maker and it worked fine. then when i was riding i snapped my clutch cable and put a five plug hole in my tire. plus i had to buy a new headgasket last week to replace my namura one that lasted a whole 2 hours after my rebuild. it seems as i cursed my 400 when i rebuilt it.

X2 on the namura gasket failing, idk how there pistons hold up but there gaskets are junk, mine lasted two braups of the throttle and I seen oil squirt out.

Sorry bout the bad luck some days are like that I guess.

ya my sparks one was well worth the 40 i paid for it sliped it on and put it back together and its still sealed perfectly. but i know for a fact their pistons are worse. on youtube if i can find it ill post it. its a video of a guy pulling apart his 440.

I bought a stock one again, been holding great so far. I'd say that head is shot, looks exactly like my polaris magnum sitting in my garage.

now im p****d off. now i found what i thought was just oil burning out of my pipe fromm when some got spilt in it fromm the rebuild is 1 of 3 things. oilrings didnt seal bad valve seals or bad valves guides. thought it was just a bad o ring on my oil filter at first bc i was leaking oil and thats were i thought my oil went but then after fixing that and no leaking from anywhere else i burned another oil tanks worth. :(

idk why people say they are junk, i have a whole season of harescrambles on my namura piston/rings with no problems.

And let me tell you i put a beating on that quad, i was hesitant about the namura stuff too but i decided to give it a shot and so far she's holdin up good.

You could try Cometic gaskets also. I have been using them in the shop and on my quad and have had nothing bad to say about them.

It looks like the one in the youtube video was bored so big the cylinder walls were extremely thin.... Which is a problem

well im still burning oil and i tore it down againg today. i came to the conclusion the oil is coming from the head bc the rings are fine and the way the burnt oil is on my piston( all in the center), but i cant find where its coming from. i just replaced the valve seals and all the guides are good but i still can find where the oils coming from

take the exhaust off and see if its still smoking.

jdog75
02-21-2010, 07:59 PM
it is bc its losing oil when it runs so it has to be going somewhere

chucked
02-21-2010, 08:11 PM
but its not burning it? Do you see any leaks?

jdog75
02-22-2010, 02:24 PM
sorry i wasnt specific enough it is burning it and the oil is entering the combustion chamber through the head

chucked
02-22-2010, 03:59 PM
Does it smoke? Does it smoke more when it is first started? or under a load??? or??

jdog75

i found out it wasnt the head but that it was the rings after having a closer look i realized the rings didnt grab the wall. the rings wore down but the cylinder wall looks exacly like it did before i started it for the first time. why did this happen,no clue its bored right and it was a brand new wiseco 416 11:1. any clues

The piston and rings are the right size for the bore.

jdog75
02-23-2010, 07:06 PM
100% bc i sent the piston and rings to the people who did my cylinder and its nice and snug to the wall

after spending alot of money and time i finally found the problem. the guy i sent my cylinder to honed it to rough and it ate the rings:mad: . so i got it honed right for free and i bought new rings and picked up a cometic complete motor kit for 40 dollars shiped new exhaust gaskets and a 42 pilot. the good news is that i though it ran nice but found out it only was running at 1/3 of its strength
