i took the engine down to the bottom to put in a new piston and the rod is a really kewl lookin bronze color from the top of the small end and about halfway to the big end. or about 1.5 inches down from the top. the rest of the rod is grey like it should be .

do all 400ex rods do this ?
is it from the heat ?
or do i have a problem?

thats how 4 stoke rods look, i guess it is from the heat and down lower it gets bathed in oil which keeps it cooler

Yor rod is perfectly fine, the bronze color is just oil.
