I just bought this custom swingarm from a member and i wondered what you guys thought about the strength of it? Will it hold up to mx as good as a stock 88-89 swingarm? Its 17 inches eye to eye if that makes any difference.
Thanks

Looks pretty strong to me, but at 17" it's pretty short for an MX swinger. Probably was originally sold as a TT swinger.

Ya its suppose to be -1 from the 88-89 stock length i think, its just a hair over 17... But im only 150 pounds, so im hoping that it will greatly increase traction and help me pull holeshots better. This thing is ultra light though so it should be great weight savings over my old steel swingarm.

i dont get how people break stuff so much just jumping... like i have jumped some crazy **** but never broke a swing arm =p but then again i never really cased anything to hard... but that looks like one hell of a strong swing arm =p but short... so the wheels may pop off the ground alot...

depending on tubing thickness, looks to be every bit as strong or stronger than a stock 89 swinger, and you only bein 150 lbs, i think you will be ok, the only thing i dont like is where the linkage bolt goes thru and those slugs are welded on, i would try to find a spacer that fits snug inside that bore to help disperse some of the pressure to those plates directly instead of those bushings welded on, other than that, looks like a sweet swingarm:cool:

At your weight, I would go for it. Should work out fine.

One thing to think about is weight distribution when changing your swingarm length. Especially since most 250R pro-peg nerfs (which you probably have) already move your foot pegs (body weight) back an inch or more.

If you get the bike together and find that your having problems with the front-end flying high off jumps, think about making adjustments to counter your weight on the bike. After all, you weight as much as 50% of your bike, so moving you makes a huge difference.

Just get some reference weights before and after and document them. Some cheap bath room scales will get you the info you need. Weigh the bike with you sitting and standing the way it is, getting total front wheel weight and total rear wheel weight. Then do it again after your swinger install and see what changes.

Good luck! Get us some pics with that baby mounted up!
