my buddy is looking at buying either a honda 250r, or a suzuki lt 250r, he is a honda guy 100%, but the lt250r's seem to be alot cheaper. Just wondering if anyone has anything to say about how they match up to one another, i personally say go with the 250r, because i love honda, but he sees that the suzukis are so much cheaper and that has him second guessing, i figured if enough people say that honda 250r's are much better, or if you guys say there isnt too much of a difference, it'll help make up his mind...

first of all you put this thread in a Honda 250R section so you know what everyones opinion will be. but if your buddy does enough research on the 2 bikes he will be able to make an easy decision!

Tell him to stick with the Honda...he'll never regret it. Even though some parts are getting harder to come by there is still more available goodies for the Honda. Buddy had a LT250r...it was alright but I personally think the "R" is superior!!

ok know the LT was alot better quad then what every one makes it to be, i got a 85, but im just using it as a trail quad for now piss around on it around the farm and stuff... but i plan on making it a hybred tt quad,

putting a Zilla Motor in it! oh yeah Feel the power! but at the same time when i do that im going to re do the front and rear end so i can run a honda set up... but i think i'll just go with a no link in the rear... less moven parts...

Well, IMO I would say get a Honda. Not saying the LT250's are bad or anything, its just that parts for them are a little harder to find. Especially if you want aftermarket. The LT's are great quads and back in the day they were hard to compete with. But there is just something about the Honda 250R geometry that is hard to beat. I guess thats why a lot of "modern" quads are patterned after them.

i think it really depends on what he is going to do with it? i've had both, but in the end i'm a diehard suzuki guy....the handling on the 250r is by far better....engine and feel wise though i like the suzuki...if he is going to mx it, go with honda, trail riding or pit riding...it really doesn't matter...like any 20 year old quad...do all the bearings, rebuild the engine top and bottom and u really shouldn't have any problems....

if he is looking to dump alot of money into it, check out quadracerhq.com....
a new frame is being made with yfz450 front end and a f1 style rear that houses both a 250 and 500 engine....

well he defintley won't be racing it, it'll mainly be a trail quad and it'll do plenty of hillclimbs here in the PA coal banks... lol. Thanks though guys this info is exactly what i was looking for. Another thing i forgot to ask was that i know honda 350r can be bored to i htink 310? can you buy kits to bore the suzuki out? thanks again

you beat me to it!

if its just a trail quad he might as well just get the zuki... the 85-86 are the cheapest cause they dont have a PV, then in 87 they added a PV and then did chassis changes from 87-92

i would stay away from an 85-86 LT, and preferably no 87 either, its a bit of a ******* year as far as parts go. if its a 88-92 LT, for the riding he is doing its probably fine. there are a few tweaks that need to be made for improved reliability that quadracerhq can help with....

Id still probably go with a Honda though, I only have a LT because it has the zilla motor in it

i had one for a week it was junk, buddy had one hes a suz fan and always had tranny problems, and it handled like crap with ohlins!!!, but it was done up pretty good and it goes fast in a straight line.. i think the 250r is a WAY better trail quad and i owned both.. tell him to take his time and look for a good deal i got my 88 for 1250 and it run fine and was pretty nice with some goods on it.. you can find them for 1500 range if you look often

goodluck

My 1st quad was a '87 Kaw Tecate4. Motor was strong, handled like a tank, no parts available. My 2nd was a 86 Suzu lt250r. Motor was strong frame was odd but I enjoyed it. I now own a 86 trx250r and none of the others compare to the total package of the HONDA!

Whatever he says, do not let him buy a Tecate. We're thinking of making Tecate ownership an invite only club :muscle:

Too funny. I almost bought another Tecate b4 i found my R. Guy wanted $1600. Then about four weeks ago some1 had a Tecate on craigslist for $800. I almost went for it but I remembered seeing a front fenders on ebay for $1000.

My brother has an '85 Quadracer that he trail rides, its been a great quad for him. The motor has great low / mid range power and the ergonomics are comfortable.
