So what is a good carb for the 250r?

With all the talk about the FCR carbs and great performance gained with an aftermarket carb, I'm rather interested in upgrading, but the FCR is a four-stroke carb.

What type of riding do you do? What all is done to your motor? Do you have any brand perferences? The Keihin PWKs are good carbs for R's. The 38mm Air Stryker works nicely. If you just MX or trail ride and have stock displacement you might want to go smaller. If you dune or have a big motor you might want to go bigger.
Mikuni also makes some good carbs (TMX I think is the series). Lecton are a popular alcohol carb.

i like Keihn the best

36mm = stock bore, MX type carb
38mm = bigger bore, MX type also
39mm = big bore, more Duneish, TT'ish carb, can be used to MX

So far it is on the stock bore, no porting. That will change pretty soon, I'm thinking ESR 310 kit. Would it be wise to also upgrade the carb? That's the whole point of doing the research now, to know what I'm going to get. Trial and error gets expensive.

Go with the PSI genisis big air carb. I has all external adjustment and adjusts itself from a 32mm to a 40mm for great power everywere. And it looks sweet:D

You can not get a pic off of their site but I will give you a link to go to so you can fall inlove with that carb. It retails for like $800. Let me know what you think. http://psiperformance.com

It seems like a raly nice carb but for $800 i think my money will go elsewhere. for that I could get a kehin, a reed cage and a good porting. and i doubt that carb would beat the power gain from all that. but that carb is a work of art. i need to go ask for a raise :)

Wow, let me know how that PSI carb works out, that thing looks awesome. For $800 I think I'll spend my money elsewhere, but I'm still interesting in knowing the performace gains.

Yeah for $800 you could get 4 Keihin PWK's and have your choice of carb size also :p
