Well it's the peak of rebuild season and I thought i'd share what i've been working on for the past few months. This is my first time doing a ground up rebuild so i'm pretty pumped about it :macho

The main reason for this build was to replace the frame. A few years ago, I cartwheeled the quad pretty good after loosing it in a whoop section in 4th gear. The stem was trashed and the upper frame hoop that supports the stem was slightly pushed down on one side. The frame also had stress cracks in the tubes near the shock mounts that had been "band aid" welded and painted. While rideable, I knew the frame wasn't perfect anymore.

So I started the build by acquiring a 2006 frame for cheap off Ebay. It had superficial paint defects, but was straight and a perfect donor frame. I then bought a BARE performance gusset kit and had it professionally TIG welded in. I took measurements prior and had the gusset kit modified in places so I wouldn't have clearance issues with my stabilizer, skid plate brackets, air scoops, etc.

I then started tearing down the quad, bit by bit.

I then picked up a new acquisition off a member on here. A Roll Design +1.5 swinger. Should go perfectly with my +1 front end and get my wheelbase correct again :)

A little worn in spots, but all in all not all that bad.

So I sent the swinger off to Pappy and had him work his PC magic on it and install a new Pivot Works bearing kit :devil:

I then decal'd it up to my liking to get the point across lol :cool:

After much debating, and a lot of Photoshop help from you guys, I had to choose what color to PC the frame. I thought about black, white, candy blue, and red. But then I decided to try something different.

Bringin this back from the dead. Holy crap it's been a while. I appreciate the comments guys :)

hondaking52, mostly cosmetic stuff as an "excuse" while everything's apart. The motor's already built up as it can get. I do have a stage 3 Hotcam on the way though as a last minute change.

Been working on it on and off for a LONG time. No big rush on it after all. Had a bunch of electrical issues so far because of the powdercoat. Frame to subframe no good ground, then no good ground from motor to frame. Finally got juice after a bunch of grinding in strategic locations.

Also had plenty of fitment issues so far because of the 2 stage powder coat. Everything was thicker than before so major components, bolts, you name it didn't want to bolt up like stock. Again, lots of grinding/filing of the powder took care of that. Very tedious process that I had to find out about the hard way :ermm:

My OEM fronts were getting a bit egged out and wobbly from years of MXing them. So I picked up some Hiper Tech 3 non-beadlock fronts in 4+1 offset.

Was a pain in the ACE getting the stock hubs off lol. Had to use a puller on it and it still put up a fight. Ended up pulling the inner bearing right out of the hub. Was fun getting the bearing off the spindle stud! Ironically, the other side slid right off like butter :rolleyes:

Thanks man I will let you know once I get some more ride time on them. I couldn't afford them new, so I got them at a fraction of the cost on Ebay used for 125. Repacked the bearings with Mobil 1 and put in new seals and she rolls pretty nice. I did see those covers from hardkor. I already have the billet Nac's covers but that's a good idea, I could have them done in candy blue to match like yours.

I appreciate that, that's awesome you bought your first quad from them! I didn't even know what a "sport" quad was in 93 haha...I thought all four wheelers were like utilities. Yeah I love staying true to the original 400 look while putting a modern spin on it.

Haha thanks! The quad has come a long way from bone stock off the showroom floor in 2000 that's for sure :p

Nac's22, that's cool i'm so glad Nac's didn't officially go under.

The header I had done at a local powder coating shop.

And yes I am going to keep the rear rings red. I debated getting blue ones, but I think the red accents the graphics and the overall "Nac's color scheme" of the quad (white, red, blue, black). It's different.

I might give it a go for QOTM, but man, there's some stiff competition already. SICK quads for April!

It's ceramic coating, not a powder. I'm not sure what this guy uses, but he has some different colors for the ceramic.

Thanks man! Still got some life in the Kenda rears so I haven't thought about switching yet. I've heard good things about the fronts, but mixed opinions on the rears. Some like em some don't. Rider preference I guess.
