I havent posted much in the open forum this year:p I had a new project on the front burner and we have been busy getting it set up and doing so much studying its nutz!

I wanted to start doing something that would fill in some slow times yet keep me and the boys together that would give us some extra income along with some learning along the way so I decided to start setting up to make my own game calls (Deer, Goose/Duck, Predator etc)

I must not have thought this all through with it being my busy season powdercoating, waterfowl hunting season and the tail end of deer season:p The past few weeks have been a blur....add to that some seperated ribs and a cold that has me seeings tars every time I cough or sneeze, it hasnt been a fun year so far!

In any event, I will still be keeping tabs on things but wont be social much as time will be spent finishing the set up and getting calls cranked out. I figure by the time the GNCC season hits I will be slowing down with the pc work and then the camera gets hot until fall but for now, I have to leave you guys in the capable hands of the other Mods as I vacate most of the sections beyond my own for the next few weeks.

I'll be on as much as possible, I cant resist getting a few of ya worked up...its a hobby I cant walk away from:devil:

Got any pictures of the calls? I was goin to try to make some but didn't really have the $$ for a lathe to add to my woodshop.:p

Havent made any yet:p

Had to get a lathe, learn to use it, band saw...sanders.....sealers, finishes....

Right now I am waiting on a few chucks and mandrels to come in and the wood. Almost ready to start turning them I would say mid week next week unless things come in early.

Cody is pumped about the turkey calls but I need a few more shop tools first...

Should be a fun venture!

A Jet

Ive seen those sites, but have been ordering from more specialty places for better prices on call blanks and such. I have a supplier for reeds and eventually I will make my own but for now, I will be satisfied with these.

Believe it or not, I already have orders:p

Welp, dinner time here at 11 pm...gotta love it!

is the top piece machined or bought that way?

Pappy
01-16-2010, 04:50 PM
The top is actually the bottom, the part that holds the reeds. For Geese, I use Echo inserts, they are almost unmatchable in sound and quality!

I have some acrylic blanks on order to turn a few out of that material...should be fun!

I can't wait.Man...those calls look great!!

Pappy

Well, other then some paperwork to finish im ready for most calls I reckon:p

Here is a thread where you can order calls or buy calls that are completed. The deer grunts a few folks have emailed/p,'d me about will be started this week and once I get rolling they will be done pretty quick. No real rush seeing deer season is all but done until next season, but turkey pots and such will be next on the list and they as well will start being turned this week.

Many thanks to everyone, hopefully I can crank out some beautiful and functional calls for those that are interested!

Your backgrounds are damn near as nice as the game calls. I think you could sell a few of the pictures for guy's "Man Rooms".

Pappy

ha, i thought thats what it looked like.

i just got my first hand-made cocoabala duck call. love it.

your calls look outstanding. you been doing single or double reed for duck calls?

Pappy
01-21-2010, 10:56 AM
Mainly single reed because that is what I use so tuning them is a bit easier.

I am getting ready to start pouring my own resins for custom blanks. I dig the wood but many love the acrylic calls...as long as it works and has great sound I could careless what its made of:p

Pappy

send me a PM what you get for a wood duck call. riding season is on my radar now, but if the price is right and you're a salesman i might try my hand with a single reed. :D
