I've been looking a lot more about being safe while riding and i purchased boots and a chest protector (already having a helmet, gloves, pants and jersey) i really want a neck protector but cant afford it... will this work good enough?

Neck rolls I'm sure are better than nothing, but a brace, is, well a brace. Now I ask you this, go squeeze your $40 neck donut and come back. Could probably squeeze it flat couldn't you? Now put this in terms of neck support and force distribution during a crash. Neck rolls provide very little support if any for neck stabilization.

If you are on a tight budget you should look at the Leatt Adventure. It offers the same protection as the Club but it has only two major components so the price is only $200. The downside is that it doesn't work as well for very tall riders and riders with very short necks because the rear table can't be lowered and their helmets sometimes hit the rear table.

Lots of great neck brace information here.

Personally I'm much happier with the Astars brace over the Leatt. Astars keeps a much lower profile and has less helmet/brace interference.
