View Full Version : Do 400's have a naturally high idle?

I was letting my quad run a bit tonight because I havent used it in about a week so i didnt want the gas to just sit for a long period of time and I noticed the idle was fairly high.

I am not too concerned about it but I have looked at quite a few videos on youtube as well as here of walkarounds on the 400's and have noticed the same on a good amount of videos that I have seen.

Is this a normal thing on these machines or are we all just running our idle high?

Thanks in advance for the answers

400ex's are notoriously cold blooded animals.

alot of us have our idles set fairly high so that it wiil warm up without us having to sit there and constantly keep snapping the throttle while cold to get it to stay running.

naturally, once it warms up, the idle gets even higher.
nature of the beast.

welcome to the world of air cooled, carburated, single cylinder, engines.

think of it as a 30+ HP lawnmower,... LOL!

As long as its still an idle sound I wouldn't worry about it. I think slightly higher idles give u better throttle response. My 300ex lopes for a few minutes while its cold then it smooths out to a nice idle when warm.
