hey can someone tell me the real reason people cut their slipons down. is it a power mod or is it a looks thing. i kinda dig the way it looks but is it worth doing? thanks

its a cheap lexx pipe for 200 bucks they arent that bad but its only 200 bucks so ill hack it up

its not the best pipe they make, it sounds similer to the hmf pipe for the 400ex but i cant complain, i dont think pipes really make a world of diff when it comes to brand and power, so if money is tight its a decent slip on to get

Yeah I would chop that pipe up too. Cut it about an inch away from that strap that holds it on. My buddy had a built 2001 416ex with a short pro circuit. WOW that was siccck

Really don't see the point in shorties. Increased volume is not a good thing in my opinion. It doesn't even make it sound better, just more obnoxious.

Changing to an aftermarket pipe alone wont do much but some are very light and the weight deference helps make up for it. Cutting it would make it lighter. Louder isn’t faster.

That's completely different. I don't think you have to worry about rigs and ignorant cars when you're on the trails. What does happen is trails get shut down because of noise pollution.

well i cut 4 inches off of it today it looks good and isnt really louder just more crisp I like it and around here you have to find a place to ride before you get kicked out for noise lol

well, one good reason for shorties would be to keep your pipe from getting ripped off if you happen to come back to far in a wheelie or something. I know my big gun pipe sticks out a little long, and if I didnt get though putting new packing in it a while ago I would have probably cut mine shorter.

how do you do it ???? like step by step

this is very easy to do. i took the muffler off the quad to do it but it could be done on it. the first thing u want to do is take off the end cap and spark arrestor, next measure down the length of the pipe how ever much you want to cut off(i cut 4 inches off mine) make several marks around the circumfrence of the muffler then take a peice of tape i used electrical tape and wrap it around the pipe keeping the edge of the tape lined up with the marks u made this will ensure a straight cut. then usung a hacksaw u can cut right down through the pipe and it should come out pretty sqaure if u stay right along the tape edge i cut down through the packing and core instead of pulling that stuff out. this is kinda tricky put the end cap back in but not the whole way u still need to see where the holes are to bolt or rivet it back on just mark where the holes are and re drill the can mine didnt line up perfect when the cap was back in the hole way but i eventualy got it right. if anymore info is needed just let me know and ill put a sound clip on youtube and post up the link thanks for the compliments

I HAD to chop down my E-Series because it kept breaking at the mid-pipe so it was less weight bounching around.. I don't think it changed the performance or sound.. so I think people either do it because they have to or for cosmetic reasons.. here is my shorty:

-a good pipe not the lexx get sparks if you can

its got cdi box, jets, pipe, filter, and its bored out. its not bad, my buddy has 450r he pulls 3 bikes but top speed murders me, i want 450r suspension 400ex feels like a bobcat

Yea my buddys had the axis on it but when he got it the guy swaped them out with the stock ones, i rode his its like driving in a town car compared to mine

Cutting it will give it a little more back pressure wont it? Im guessing itll change the power characterisitics some what and deffinatley change the sound probably louder. I have a thing for short pipes they sound great to me.

you dont need a rivet gun just those screws with the bit at the end thats what i used
