Top speed question

I know I've asked this before, and no one really knew, but does anyone know what the top speed of a DS450 is? preferably a DS450XC???

maybe someone has a trailtech on their bike and went completely wide open....?

just curious, i really want to pick up a DS450xc, but I'm used to my DS650X and how fast i can hit in the desert...obviously I'm not pinned everywhere, but I'd at least like to keep up with my friends on the roads coming back to camp...

I thought the 450 motor was faster than the 650. That the 450 was tuned for racing more than the 650 was. The same way the yamaha 450 race bike was faster than the 700 raptor.

The bigger bores will be a few mph faster on top, but really if the 450 isnt fast enough then bump up a tooth on the front sprocket, or go down three on the rear. In reality im sure you will be pleased with it the way it is when you get it.

all i know is my buddy has an 08 kfx450r with smallest rear and biggest front sprockets, the programmer, intake, exhaust, carbon fiber wheels and some other good stuff.... his wifes KFX400 with a smaller front sprocket is faster

it just seems that all the new stuff is gear specifically for mx...even if thats not what you want.

anyway, thanks for the posts on here... it's helping me decide if i want to spend the money lol...

Then your friends kfx is set up terribly, its geared up to much, or he rides it like a puss.

he actually rides faster than most people i've met...

his wifes kfx400 is faster on access roads... where you can go flat out in top gear... the trailtech said his max speed, totally pinned was 66mph.

haha then his KFX has something terribly wrong. Mine stock was way faster than that.

It actually runs perfectly, its a brand new 08' with two 7day desert trips on it, the stock gearing on them just seems to be setup for mx, and thats it. I really like the bike, at the sand drags it was dead even with a built up LTR450/105lb rider.

the top gear is the issue, we actually had a friend who hadn't ridden a sport atv before, he swore up and down that the bike did 90mph lol.... it does seem weird that top speed is like that though

Devins just bragging. A tooth on the front sprocket alone will buy you close to 4-5mph on top. Start there, do the basic mods, pipe, filter, ECM, what have you. You will be railin in no time. Never lookin back at the log of a bike the 650 was.
