z400 or 400ex. I personally would go with the honda since its less complicated (air cooled not liquid like the z)

400ex, or Z400 if you want a little more performance which comes with a little more maintenance. But either can make great woods quads.

or a raptor, renegade 800, outlaw irs, 700xx

400ex hands down, they are plentify, cheap, and have a ton of aftermarket parts avaiable. Plus the maintenance for the performance you get cannot be matched!

400ex... no doubt and if you get ready for serious power swap in a 450 engine. but suspension geometry is really good imo.. which makes up for hp in some ways.. used aftermarket parts are everywhere too..

i think warriors have no power, i would get a 300ex first

250r or a 400ex.. Both handle nice, run good and parts are cheap.. motor wise the 250r is cheaper but parts are a becoming a bitach to find, I can't find anything for mine like what was offered just a few years ago.. :(

holy fbomb! 11K+ post?!?! holy tittys...

i would say a 400ex or 250r, some of the 250r stuff is starting to come back around... i think they will start to reman some parts or some one will make them...

if you have the money i would also check out a yzf... the motors are really strong, i think the 04's you need to watch the cams a bit cause they dont have oil ports on them...

it has nothing to do with the cams...... the 04s-05s were really not troublesome unless you didnt do your maintence, the 04-05 had a splash fed wrist pin bearing which oiled fine with oem components and proper maintence, guys with work updated to a yzf style oil squirter that bcs does for 75 bucks and yamaha did this standard in 06 just to open the reliability, 04 also had a rubber decomp plug that blew out from time to time

i would go with the 07 and newer just for the updated swingarm bearing carrier

yea i raced an 05 in gncc and changed oil every race and cleaned air filter and never had a prob. but i wouldnt consider a yfz budget

You are right on everything you said except they didn't have the oil squirter in the '06 models, they didn't start doing it until '07.

I wouldn't go with a 2 stroke for the woods. 4 strokes are way better. I would go with the z400 just for the fact that it is water cooled. I'm not putting down the honda because it is a good quad but I like to have that extra protection that a water cooled bike has.

i see alot of 400ex with the wrist pin worn out.

I loved my 400ex for woods riding. That thing was so easy to throw around and it was geared perfect. The only thing that sucked is it didn't have reverse. But if you get an 05+, thats not a problem. Can't beat the ease of maintenance and reliability either.

If you are looking for a used woods quad, go w the Z400's. The engine are bulletproof, easily upgraded w a 434 or 450 kit if you want more. there are a ton of parts for them.

The frames are pretty weak but nothing a gussett kit cant fix. I had a KFX400 and it was one of my all time favorite quads... it did nothing wrong.

I'd also say either a 400ex or Z400. Although I think the KFX450 is perfect for the woods, but Im kinda biased lol. The outlaw 525irs is nice too, just a little too heavy to throw around like I do my kfx. But for the price, parts available, and realiability, you can't beat a 400, its the best all around quad you can get IMO

i just thought it would be a good topix
