it depends on your skill level...most races did just lower the age to race a 450 to 15....

ok. and about the skill level ive never rode a 450 only 350's and 250's and i can control that 250 really well but im just curious whether the 450 would be to much for me to handle?

yeah..as long as you can be smart about it i would get the 450...if you can afford it too
that way u can spend this year getting used to it and then race it when your 15 if u want

Is it mommy and daddys money?, no offence meant by that

considering your 14, get a 400 or 450 and then mod it as you get used to it. Dont buy the fastest thing you can find to begin with. If you do, call the hospital and make reservations.

Get the 450 and a truck to haul it in haha:D . But I would ride one and make sure you can handle it.

spend $6000 on the newest "half race bike" you can find and save the rest. Meaning, find a clean 450 with full quality aftermarket suspension and a stock motor.

Reason ? I'm a firm beleiver that the 450's are too fast for the stock suspension they come with to be considered safe. You'll be faster AND safer on all terrain with a wider, lower, better suspended quad.

Then when the time comes, sell it and start over and go for the engine mods. It will be several years, if ever, that you'll need more power than a stock 450 makes.

just my 2 cents.

I would look for a bone stock, clean YFZ. You can find 2007's for around $3000-$3500 these days in superb bone stock low hours condition.

15,000 - 3,500 = 11,500

Ride it a little, don't push yourself, and get used to it. Get to know the quad real well, as well as it's handling and power characteristics.

Now that you've had some practice, get yourself some +2 a-arms, shocks, and +4 axle brand new valved for your weight.

11,500 - 2,000 = 9,500

Pick up some standard safety equipment and accessories. IE: Nerf bars, tether kill switch, unbreakable levers, skid plate, beadlock rims, etc.

In the end you can have a nice race bike with a couple grand to spare.

Most importantly, the jump from a 250/350 to a 450 sport quad is incredible. Be careful dude.

I dont get why people think 450's are so mind bogglingly powerful? I went from a 250ex to a Trx450r. Ya it was faster... thats about it.

I didnt get on it and say holy crap thats fast? Its not uncontrolable. I got my 450 when I was 15. I think you'll be fine. Im even on the lighter side at 145.

Id say find a nice used 2007 and up Yfz450 with suspension mods and maybe even a pipe. Make it the way you like and then there you go. Or buy a brand new Ktm450sx and you already have a race ready quad.

Yeah I don't see how everyone thinks a 450 is so incredibly powerful.. I made the switch from a 250x to a 450r when I was 11. It's not that hard..

I'd get the yfz450r. They are my 2nd favorite quad other than honda, and they are one of the faster stock bikes.

It depends on experience level. If someone isn't very experienced it can be a hell of a switch. For a lot of us riders it isn't that bad.

The DS450 MX's are pretty sweet.. but im gonna have to say YFZ.

I have the yfz and have a hard time getting around some youngsters on 400's..... I have only seen the Suzuki around here. That would be a very good choice....
