Well the deal is a couple local dealers still have brand new Outlaw 500's they have never sold. I was wondering if it would be worth it to snag one of these if I could for a low price, and what is a good price in your guys mind? I know the 525's are a beast, and I'd like to get one, but money is an issue. I curently have a 400ex and would like something faster and the IRS really intrigues me. How are these compared to like a z400, 400ex, or the 450's. Any oppinions are welcomed and appreciated, thank you.

I sell Polaris and can tell you that right now there is an 800.00 rebate on all new left over 07-09 Predators, and Outlaws. Also many dealers have fell victim to the bad economy. What happends when they go bankrupt is that Polaris comes to the dealership and trucks all of the unsold machines back to a warehouse were they are then auctioned off to other Polaris dealers that are still in business. For instance I saw the other day where I could bid on a repo 2009 525 IRS that was still in the crate, usually these machines are sold pretty cheap. Keep this in mind when you are looking at a 2006 left over that they probably still want 5100 for. I owned and raced a 500 Outlaw and they are a great machine, just keep in mind that the book value on that machine 5 minutes after you buy it is prob about 3300.

I have a Predator 500 and an Outlaw 525.
While the 525 is faster, i still am impressed by the snappyness and fun to be had on the 500.

If you can get it for a song, go for it....

well, better brake lines, calipers, shocks, and a hydrolic clutch. More power, torque, and a smoother ride.

The outlaw does have a taller seat height, but there is actual padding in the seat, so it's not like sitting on plastic with a sweatshirt stretched over it.

just to name a few things.

I read a mag review that said it really lacks low end grunt, that true?

I'd say 3K would be a deal. Leftover 525's can be had for 4K.....

How are they compared to the 450's or a raptor in the drags? Can they hold their own?

for drag racing the 500 can hold its own but the 525 is the better one.. with a few upgrades for the 500 it can hold its own

my local dealer has had one sitting in the show room for 3 years and refuse to match it.. they refuse to take a loss even though i will be taking a loss the second i purchase it.. cuz it will only be worth 4000 the second i take it home.

Hello RNL, I think you could get an 08 525 for close to the same money your dealer wants for the 500, The 525 is twice the wheeler, it's not even close in any drag racing inless the 525 gives it a huge headstart. The closest thing that runs with my 525 is the 700 raptor.

a friend of mine had a 500 a few years back. He bought one new and kept it for a year or two but then ended up selling it because it was hard on the wallet to maintain. The early production IRS systems ate things like bearings, seals, and parts of that nature like they were going out of style. While they are great quads, be prepared for it to cost you some money in the long run. I would systematically go through every time a part breaks and beef everything up with higher quality parts instead of replacements.

My Predator 500 is approaching 70 hours with nothing but oil changes, no valve adjustments, nada.

The Outlaw 525 has about 40, with Zero issues total. No tie-rods or cv joints or bearings......

Just sayin.

The reason behind that is the fact that after the 500 was replaced by the 525 the IRS system had been in the quads for a year or two and the bugs had been worked out of them for the most part. When the 500's were made the IRS system was still in its infancy with some flaws, you have a newer quad with the bugs worked out of the system.:)
