^^ hes got a stroger one i think... but with the OE set up your going to have todo a set up kinda like mine, honestly dude, its will worth the time and money, then you dont have to wine and cry about your chassis being all cracked up and people ****ing you over! haha! jk ;)

if you plan on doing anymore welding i would suggest turning up the volts a lil. the welds are to convex and look cold. jmo

ya, i had it set like that because i was scared of burning through. Since its not usually the weld that cracks again, i figured it would be fine. The only place i wish i would have kicked it up a notch is rear lower motor mount. Im thinking about welding side to side over that one again and see if i can make it any better. :/

What if i just put a 90 degree piece of metal running from the plat that the swing arm bolts to, to the frame rails? would that work too?

i think you better rethink those welds. it's good that you are trying to repair it yourself but......should you be welding on anything that you are scared of burning through? and as far as you comment about the weld not cracking? not usually huh? bet that frame cracks quicker than you think

my point is that certain things must be done right or risk damaging more parts or yourself.

the frame is hard as hell to weld on. The welds are not that bad. The frame cracks quick because its made out of flimsy crappy material... my welds will hold fine but thats for the comment.

the frame isnt made of crap.... its 20+ years old and has gone through hell...

86 Quad R
01-15-2010, 09:02 PM
your missing the point...... and the frames arent crappy. they are a flex design and if nawt welded correctly can/will cause cracking in the immediate area of which was welded/modded/repaired. understand?

i personally preferr tig on repaired cracks ect. although a good mig setup will be fine for the most part.

i guess we will see how it holds up, but i think it will be just fine.

I think you will be fine with your welds. The frame will always flex and break the frame, the welds will never be flexible. Besides, that's what welding is all about, if it breaks yo just fix it again.

live and learn, if they happen to break ill just reweld and go, atleast im using an oe frame thats not worth a dime.

I'm running stock 450R front brake lines on my +3 Houser front-end. Just letting you know that they will work if your on a tight budget. They have plenty of length and not bind.

how did you get the brake lines to mount up? did you use the whole assembly up to the handle bars? Or did you just use the two pieces that go to the a arms?

THANKS!!!!!

THANKS!!!!!

I used the whole front line assembly, although I changed out the steel line so I could mount the top line real sanitary. I'll get you a pic soon. I should tell you though that I had to ziptie the lines to the upper control arms because I didn't have any fancy clamps.

That would be good just incase the lines that 312R1 have arent the correct ones for me.

One thing ive noticed is the rear end is much stiffer than before, i think it must be beacuse of the -2 swingarm, changing the leverage ratio...

you would have been better off finding spindles off of a 04-05 450r. less bump steer. but im assuming you don't race the A class, so all the little things I would tell you wouldn't be of any benefit to you

Well my original intentions were to find some 450r spindles. but the 04-05's are so damn expensive... So i just went with the 400ex's.

baker250r
02-10-2010, 08:41 PM
yea it happens. i got a 400ex complete front setup im lookin to get rid of... calipers rotors spindles and hubs. along with some TCS long travel front shocks.

can you really tell that much difference between the 450r and 400ex spindles? Rite now... all im interested in would be a rear shock...

well put it this way. I had an 06 450r, and I put the 04-05 spindles. and it is night and day. but again, for somebody on a budget and isnt looking to be top of the A class... its not important.

crap i'll be leaving for waynoka on the 14th. i'll have to catch you out there sometime though. and about the inman track.... They completely redid it like 2 years ago. The guys that built the track down at jeeps came in and did it. It was pretty sweet they just didnt take care of it at all. As far as i know they are suposed to start rebuilding it sometime in march here.
