Studs video

I started on a "studding my tires" project Thanksgiving weekend so I could extend my riding season this year. I finished and went for a test ride Saturday with my brothers. I have posted these on the Raptor forums already.

I took the quads out yesterday for a second time with my brother. We rode out at the lake again but spent most of the time on a frozen swamp which takes the lake runoff. There was more snow this week, around 6 to 8 inches. The quads ran great and the studs worked great in the deeper snow. The heated grips get real toasty, my brother complained his thumb got cold.

For the video I tried a few new things. I tried a video effect of my pretend sponsors at the beginning of the video just to see if I could do it. I also sped up the first two clips to better match the head banging audio track. My Flip video camera seems to act up in the cold. The video bounced around alot more this time and I am not sure why. I would really like to get that "Go pro" hd camera.

Well, I had a set back with my rear tires. Last weekend while riding with my boys I developed a slow leak in one tire. I took it into my tire guys to patch the tube and line the tire with a piece of thin rubber floor mat I bought at Home Depot. The manager there said that my idea wouldn't work and would just rub thru the tube like the stud heads did. He put the tire back on the rim with no tube. It held air, even with the 60 holes/studs I put in it.

Today, I took the quads back out to the lake. I wanted to ride the lake one more time because all the snow melted off and than refroze. The lake was basically bare ice. I met with my brother and we went out. After about 40 minutes I notice both my rear tires were losing air. We headed back in to pump them up but the leak was too big. The day was over.

I plan to take the final 3 tires back to my tire guys and pull all the tubes out. The tire without a tube today stayed aired up with no problems. My video below was cut short and I basically was only able to video my brother. He was just getting warmed up when we had to quit. Bummer...

I noticed the air leak when I had stopped below. Check out the rear tires on the left quad.

I took my neighbor Dan, aka "Phucker" riding yesterday. I made a video around him and the ride. I think it is my best yet. My brother met us there and helped with the cameras.

I did take the quads out riding last Saturday and produced a video for Diamond J Customs and their ATSki kit. I get the second kit for free in exchange for a promotional video.

I worried about copyright and royalty fee's using somebodys music on the video since this is kind of promotional thing. I purchased a licensed sound track which is royalty free and perfectly legal to use. My brothers helped me with the camera's and setup.

I started this project Thanksgiving weekend and worked every weekend until Christmas on the tires and quads. I have than ridden every weekend since Christmas, 5 weeks total. A short weekend ride now takes all weekend because of video editing the high def stuff, and all the video's are starting to look alike. I could use a break. I plan to take next weekend off and do my taxes and get reaquinted with my family.
