Here is how my 03 z400 looked when I first got it minus the Moose front bumper. I got a complete bushing, bearing and seal kit for this bike and replaced everything except for the front wheel bearings.

a pic of it in my buddy Kendall's dirty ole Dodge

here is a pic of it just before the ATV drags at the fairgrounds

1718111322

It is my reliable trail bike that I usually go to for everyday riding and raising cane.

It's nothing major, but it does have a few goodies. It has Moose handle bars, bumper, and nerf bars. I added 450r front shocks to it and have all of them dialed in pretty good right now. For performance I had the head ported and polished, added DRZ-E kit and 400ex intake boot. Then I just worked on the stock pipe a little and removed the airbox lid before rejetting the carb. I'm running a 13t cog since I went 21x11x9 GNCC tires. It has just been a great bike for me and never give any trouble.

Soon I hope to add a HMF full system, Dyna prog CDI, and a FCR39 carb to open it up a little more along with a aluminum airbox and clamp style filter.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Looks very clean, did you spray paint the wheels or PC?

Thanks man, it don't always stay clean though.

The wheels are powder coated. The nose piece is spray painted using that fusion plastic paint. I replaced the fuel tank cover with a black one from a kaw.

I had to spend a little money on the ole 400 this week. I bought a Typhoon rear brake rotor, a aluminum Renthal 40t rear sprocket, and a new D.I.D. X-ring chain. I also picked up a white VP fuel jug to use with this bike.

I got a little bored and wanted something to do to one of my bikes so I decided to move the ignition switch and those 3 lights off the handle bars and down onto the nose piece for a little cleaner look.

How much more height did you gain? Did you have to gear it down?:D

f150dan
02-28-2010, 06:52 PM
I gained about 1in in height because the 21 GNCC's are the same height as 22 normal holeshots or Kenda tires. I also did gear down a bit. I am running 13-40 gearing right now and like that with these tires

The 400ex in the background ain't mine. It's my buddy Gordons. He just bought it and wanted me to change oil, adjust valves, replace carrier bearings and add a new chain and sprockets.

I just bought a pair of used 2+3 offset front wheels for this bike which will widen the front out 1in on each side and I got a pair of LTR hubs for the rear which will widen it out 3/4in on each side. It should be a little more stable now.

i have to agree with you,my z400 is the most used quad in my stable, its a versatile do it all quad for me.Its wheelie prone so it wont climb the cliffs like my 500 zilla but i love it.i run the 20 gncc on the back,go almost anywhere with them plus they last a good bit.;)

I bent a tierod during the riding trip today. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to replace with with stock, find a stronger aftermarket tierod, or just straighten it and sleeve it. What do you guys think?

stockers are pretty cheap to replace,or if it aint too bad just adjust your alignment and keep ridin..:D

I just got these off eBay.

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc308/f150dan/a2f7b4e2.jpg

These are American Star chromoly heavy duty racing tie rods that are manufactured out of precision formed, seamless, heat treated 4130 chromoly .120 wall 5/8 inch tubing with precision machined 304 Stainless Steel internal or external threaded ends TIG welded in. I hope they are in by Friday so I can get them installed and go riding at Royal Blue near Knoxville TN Saturday with everybody. I also can't wait to see how the black tie rods look on my bike

I got alot of work done on this bike today. I installed the new ASR tie rods and replaced the front wheel bearings. Then I got around to switching my front tires over to the new wider offset wheels I got off eBay since the powder coaters are finally finished with them. I wanted new 21x7x10 GNCC tires to match the rear but talked myself out of it for now and just used my old tires. Then I installed the LTR rear hubs I got a couple weeks ago. I found out that even though these hubs have a wider offset, they are more narrow where they fit onto the splines of the axle. A washer large enough to fit over the splines too would cure the problem but the axle nut will thread in farther and the cottar pin doesn't go through the nut then. I decided to make a 1/4in. spacer out of some thick tubing I had lying around to go behind the hub. This cured both problems and also gave me a bit more offset too. I will take a few pics tomorrow and post them up for you guys. I think it looks alot better now.

I just now found out after reading on quadracerhq that yfz double piston front calipers are a direct bolt-on and big improvement for the z400. Has anybody tried this yet? Guess I gotta find me a new set of calipers now.

Can you see the spacer I made that goes between the axle and the hub to make these work properly?

I just installed new axle carrier bearing today since I felt a little play in them on my riding trip. I also ordered some red ATVrider decals from here to put on this bike and got a blue one for my truck.
