wiring diagram and some questions

hello all i became a 250x owner today after i saw a nice add on craigslist. anyway I was wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram for the bike. i found one but it shows a started and a battery but there is no battery on my bike do these bikes have batteries?
also i dont think these bikes were electric start i think that was the 300ex. do they pull pretty decently im going to give it to my women and she has 0 experience on a quad and were taking it to the dunes do you guys think it will be ok for that?

i have found a wiring harness from a post in this forum. are any parts from the 250x interchangable with a 250r?

i thought i found one but it has a battery and starter in it as well is there one that is specifically for the 250x mine is a 1988

do a search for trx250x manual. I know there on here cause I down loaded one from here. I bought a basket case 87 trx250x in the spring of 2009, and just got it up and running - what a fun quad!!!!!!!! Need help or advise pm me. I repaired the frame,installed brakes -calipers, new bearings on rear carrier, tore engine apart, and freshened up engine with good used gears on transmission, piston and rings-honing jug,rebuild-set up, etc.......... I jumped in to this project with automotive knowledge and alot of help from this web site and suppliers parts microfische. Good luck.

i will definetly ask a few questions here and there mines actually in pretty decent shape. I got it for 550 bucks canadian and its not too bad. it has spark and the carb is clean i got it running for a bit today its got alot of compression my leg is numb after about 5 6 kicks.

do the 400ex rear calipers fit on the 250x the fronts did no problem.

yes the 400ex calipers fit on rear brakes. The carb is easy to rebuild- about 15-20 US$ on e-bay for a kit. My engine is 12:1 compression, and if timming and carb are set correctly, it may take one to three kicks to start, depending on how cold it is outside.

I don't think a 250x is a good quad to start out on in the dunes, unless she has a good idea about gears, clutch, downshifting etc. I've tried to teach my g/f, but she just doesn't understand the clutch/gear thing. She will keep it in 4th gear and try to turn around goin slow. lol

the reason you keep getting the wiring diagram with the starter is beacause there is two version of the 250x. The 87 to 92 version you got that is kick start and the 2008 up that was formullay 250ex. This on has a battery and electric start. (not sure why honda dropped the e).

Now, I don't know this for sure but I don't think any of your electrical parts will interchange with the 250r. I am sure that none of them will interchange with the 300ex...not even the cdi.

Rear brakes are the same as the 400ex.

well i know the electronics are all diffrent for the 250x and the 250r I was just more reffering to like suspension items but I got that figured out now.

I think im gonna buy a new harness and a on off switch. just to clean everything up. once I get the 400 caliper on the rear basically the only thing I need then is a 250r hood and a seat cover and the bike will look like new. im pretty excited about this bike should run good. i have a 91 300 4x4 and it has 1500 hours on the original motor and is still going strong.

what kind of wattage does the stock stator output on these things? I am looking at some lights and Im not too sure what I can do or not do until I know how many watts the stator outputs

I,m not sure about max output, but the service manual states 12 volt hedlight at 60-55 watt, reverse light at 3.4 watt - 12 volt, and brake light at 5 watt - 12volt. I currently rigged a Ford Taruas fog light on my quad until I can get a better light. The fog light has high/low beam and shines in the dark on high beam w/ plenty of light to see in pitch black dark.

what is the diffrence between the 86 diagram and the 88? I found the 86 it looks very close but shows a battery do the 88s have batteries too? also is the 87-88 harness and light switches the same?

the 86 honda 250 was a ut. Not even close to the same quad.
