Went north for the holidays for some R&R and dunes riding.

On the first day, up the first dune, as soon as I hit third gear it jumped as if I hit a false neutral, but it kept doing it, jumping and skipping, but only in third gear?

Spent the rest of the day avoiding 3rd gear, over-revving in 2nd or lugging it in 4th. GRRRR!

Am I up for big $$$?

well not big money if u can do the work yourself. U can prolly find a used tranny on ebay pretty cheap or just get the part u need from a dealership. If u can't do the work yourself it will require to tear the whole engine down which is a lot of money. My 3rd gear did the samething in my 300ex. I found a tranny for 70 bucks on ebay and had a shop put it in it was almost 500 bucks. hope this helped u out.

Doing it your self wont be that bad, if you have the space and tools. Get a repair manual, I did a crank in a warrior in about a day.

does any of the other gears do that? If so even just a little, it might be the shifter wheel in the tranny. Mine wouldnt stay in gear and would do the same thing and it was just the wheel loose

Nah, it's only third gear. I was thinking (hoping) it might be the selector and not the gears.
