I am thinking of fitting a Hinson 450r clutch basket to a 700xx. The only problem is that the 450r uses 1.5mm steel plates and the 700xx uses 2.0mm steel plates. I was wondering if anybody had a idea why they fitted thicker steel plates in the 700xx ?
Grateful for any ideas.

more drag, friction build up, better heat dispersion, better wear performance among other things. steve

So would think a Hinson 1.5mm plate would be as stronge or stronger than a OEM 2.0mm plate.

if i was going to just take a stab at it, i would say no. the oem stuff is pretty good so it would be hard to lose that much of a thickness and still retain the same properties of the thicker one. I am not saying that the hinson is not stronger but it would be tougher for hinson to make an equivalent plate that is thinner. just an opinion for you. steve

no prob, i hope i did not confuse you. I would contact Hinson to see what they say about the swap and such to see if it will work out good to do it. steve

I contacted both Hinson and Barnett and they said the 450r clutch and 700xx clutch are differant . I asked them about this and got no replies. Trying to find a clutch guru.
