Has anyone ever extended their factory a arms? I was thinking about trying to add 1" per side. I am thinking of cutting them where they are straight and adding 1" of tubing . Welding the new section in then grinding it flush and the welding a sleeve over that. I think it will work. I have more time than money.

You can give it a shot but your geometry will be off and it will handle like crap.

That is what i was wondering. What angle's will it affect?
there's a guy on here that did that to a 400ex and his came out good, he also put a cr500 motor in it you could look in the 400ex section or in the hybrid section under a-arms or cr500/ex
I have built a few a-arms. The one thing you will want todo is off set or add more forward than stock. This keeps the shock alignment were it should and doesn't cause push. By this if you go +1 you will want to add at least 1/2 forward. Make the front part of the arm +1 and the back side 1 1/2". That will give you the off set or forward addition needed. If you go +2 (this is what I recommend) you will want to do a +1 forward. It will add a little weight and you will have to watch the areas after the welds for cracks. You will also need to add to the tie rods. I have done the same to these by sleeving.
