Can somone tell me if there is a better gear combo than stock on the 2003 Raptor?

My buddy wants me to ask, becuase he has a stock Raptor, and he was racing our other buddies Preditor, and he would get the holeshot, but in 4th and 5th gear the preditor would pull away.

I know a larger front sprocket would help top end but im just wondering if this is what he really wants to do.

And advice would be cool, tnx.

Tell him to drop 2 teeth on the rear sprocket. This will give him some more top end but won't be as drastic as going up 1 on the front sprocket.

Is it on average, going down 2 teeth in the rear, is close to being half of what going up 1 tooth in the front would be?

If that makes sense.:huh

-2 rear = +.5 front

-4 rear = +1 front

If I remember right the stock sprocket ratio is 13/40 for the Raptor. This breaks down to 3.08. Going up one tooth on the front to 14/40 makes it 2.85. Leaving the front alone and dropping 2 in the rear to 13/38 is 2.92--a nice middle ground.
