in 19 days i will be getting my liscence, and have yet to buy a truck. i have 1500 cash saved at the moment, so my grandpa will pay the rest and i will pay him back, like a loan, but no interest. theirs a guy down the road that is really good friends with my bestfriends cousin, and my brother. he takes good care of his stuff, and i know everything about everything he owns. his things are reliable, i now this because i bought my 450r from him 1 1/2 years ago. anyways, he jus bought a new truck, and has his old one for sale. its a 99 or 2000(cant remember) extended cab z71. it has rims, and tires, brush gaurd, cd player, etc. he always been good to it, and kept it clean. he fixes everything as soon as anythings wrong. the only downfall is it has 153k miles. he told me, since im a good friend, he was asking 6800 from everyone else, but hed give it to me for 6000. should i take the offer, or is this to much for the miles? any input is appreciated!

I'd say go for it. I love my 01' z71, the 5.3 is pretty much bullet prof if taken care of.

another thing. mom called him one night when i was out, and he said the was a little bubble of rust on it, barely noticable. i figure with these trucks its either cab corners , or rear fender, right above the well. bu tmom couldnt remember what he said. and hes in florida till new years, and its hard to get ahold of him.

Haven't seen any rust on mine aside from the under carriage but that is definitely something I would look further into.

I think I'd pass,...
on spending that much,...
of grandpa's cash,...
for an overpriced truck,...
that is already showing signs of body cancer coming from under the paint,...
that is only going to get worse,...
that will drive down any resale value,...
causing you to lose money,...
that will make paying back your grandpa that much harder.

and what about insurance, registration, sales tax, title transfer fee's ? then of coarse there's fuel, and........

Patience is a virtue.
Yes you should keep looking,
...And Saving.

Sounds a little high to me as well. i have a 94 silverado and it has no rust on it at all. The good thing you have going for you is there are tons of cars and trucks for sale and lots of motivated sellers. I’d keep looking, but you may want to counter his offer later if you can’t find anything else.

its actually not as high around here as it may be somewhere else. around here z71s are The truck, everybody wants one, and they go for pretty good prices. theirs still 95 and 96s on craigslist and local paper for 4500-5000. part of th ereason im considering it is because most the lots around here are even higher, and people who own these trucks arent wanting to sell them. also, papaws a buisness man, and a hell of a talker...

He's asking way to much for that truck. I would definitely pass.

Just because it’s handy doesn’t make it a good deal.

Add another to the pass. For that price you could atleast have a full size or a mid size with a lot less miles.
