Hey everyone I like watching everyone else do there rebuilds and decided to post up my own. I currently have most of the parts just trying to refinish the worn items on a budget and rebuild some minor pieces. I most likely will race this year in a local circuit just 4-5 races unless something comes up.
Here's the plan:
Things I'm going to change/replace:

Every bearing
New hood
Clutch
Complete motor rebuild
Chain/sprockets
New tires
New rims if I stay within $$
Powdercoat worn pieces
Rebuild shocks
I put new graphics on late in the fall some may have already seen them

Here's the beginning:

Frame powdercoated gloss arctic white

I'm keeping the swingarm and subframe the same as I dont want to spend any money on them and they look ok...

I know the rear is steel... the front feels light like aluminum though and i've had enough chain/ sprocket failures last year...

EDIT: i checked the front is steel

Looks good...

I have to ask. If you had the frame powder coated why didn't you gusset it?

rollie

It is guesseted

Looks good so far!

veenser2000
12-30-2009, 06:54 PM
Rollie is correct it had already been sent to rath and been gusseted there.

How many gussets do they use? I thought I've seen kits with a few for the rear of the frame.. Bare for one.

I looked a little closer and only see a couple in the front of your frame?

I'm not dissing, I'm just curious. I plan to gusset my frame this summer when I do a tear down. It's to hot to ride during the summer in Florida.

I think the philosophy behind the rath gusset kit is that the frame can still flex under pressure. A frame that is too rigid will still jjust crack in a different spot. Dont ask me which is best I dont really know...

i may be wrong but i looks like rath just uses half pipe and welds it on the weak point instead of using a flat plate

1) Remove oil seals

2) Put a block of wood on the floor

3) Put a glove on your hand

4) grab the carrier with your gloved hand

5) Slam the carrier down on the block of wood so the bearing is flat with the wood.

6) Once the bearing is out, you can do the other side by slamming on the wood...being careful not to let the tube fly out the open end. Or, find the appropriate sized socket to put against the tube and drive the other bearing out.

The weight of that steel tube on the inside will drive the bearing out. It will take 20-30 slams.

The reason for the glove is so you don't break a vein in your fingers from the impact...I've had it happen twice.

If this doesn't work then you need to heat the carrier in a grill for 15 minutes. The bearings will practically fall out.

Trust me, this works every time.

You are correct Onebad400 it is a half tube around the upper rail. There also is some gussets on the rear bottom of the frame and along the vertical rail.

New rath nerf nets and bumper on its way along with new (used) asv levers. Also recieved my new quadtech hood.

hood

Also I have installed the a-arms, sub-frame, front shocks (temp.), stem, and precision. I didnt realize it but the LSR Outlaw swinger uses extra hardware on the front pivot so it will be 1 week approx for that to be on. Also shocks will be sent away soon to a local shop that has the license to do them.

Heat is the ticket for getting the bearings out!

only suffering two difficulties now.. i want to regrease my Flexx bars but i dont want to smash the center tubes out if there is more little orings in them. I pulled four out but i was wondering if the is more in the center pivot. Anyone????? Also i snapped the head off the pep clamps shock holder center bolt and can't get it out now but i guess im going to have to drill it out and retap for a new bolt..... boo

Also I have ordered new rath nets for my nerfs... ordered the needle bearing kit for the outlaw swinger and outlaw linkage bearing and seal kit ($$$$$) as i was missing a couple pieces... ordered new elka high compression speed knobs off the factory shocks for a unique look.. this sport is deffinately not cheap!! working on getting my new race number so i can order # plates from e-sticky also.

if you go on fasst's website, there is a video on how to grese the flexx bars. it says that you need to buy the repair kit, but i think you could get everything out without damage. also, any estimate on how much you've spent on the bike so far? thanks

fastredrider44
01-05-2010, 01:22 PM
Yes, the existing hardware will work with the swinger. My version of getting the bearings out of the carrier is similar to stated before. I start off with putting the carrier in the freezer, or outside on a day like today. After it is good and cold, I take it out and heat up the carrier with a propane torch. The carrier will heat up much quicker than the bearings and they will slide on out, provided the carrier isn't chewed up. Do not used a cutting torch, as you can destroy the aluminum in a matter of seconds.

Good luck, and when in doubt, use a BFH!

Thanks Honda4life05 i found the flexx video with a little searching! Flexx bars are now greased and on the machine i found a rebuild kit for them that I got with my machine. The total value of my rebuild should stay under 1200 CAN roughly but I will have a like brand new bike. I have also added many parts that were not really required but wanted some new changes to it. I decided I am not going to ship my whole motor to TC Racing as I can do the assembly and just send him the head to be re-epoxyed and new valvetrain and seats cut to save some coin. The only thing I have not arranged is where to send my shocks.... i don't think I want to send them to elka because they charged me an arm and a leg last time for a rebuild but I was very happy with there performance in the end. Where do you people send your shocks?

pull the axle out some and take a pic of the left side. Pretty sure that belongs on the left side to create a nice seal into the carrier.

I know my JB Superlink is 17.5" eye-to-eye. My LSR DC6 takes a 16.5" e2e. Have seen the Walsh Savior take a 17 3/4" e2e. And I know my bro's ARSFX is 17.5" e2e. So yeah 18" is pretty long.

i figured out the collar belongs on that side with the anti-fade.. but I have the wrong bearing seals in the carrier that is why it wont go together smoothly. You cant use oem honda seals only the LSR ones work in a lsr carrier when using the lsr equipment around it...****

I read about putting the bearing carrier in the grill awhile back when this was posted...I just walked inside now from doing this and it totally works. Had to come tell you guys. I had previously pounded and pounded on that thing to the point where I was so frustrated I haven't touched it in a couple weeks. Left it in the grill for 15 mins and on the first slam one side came out with the sleeve then I just tapped the other side with a screw driver and that came out just as easy. Great tips guys

I like to the whiteframe and different color on subframe. If that is flat black on the nerfs, I really like that touch or maybe you ordered them that way? Excellent job. Can't wait for plastic.. You going white or some other color?

I have white plastics but also a brand new set of maiers in red.. i cant decide... but my white fenders have pretty new graphics so that most likely will be my choice..
