I am currently looking to replace rear tires on my Honda 400EX, right now I have 20X10R9's(I think stock), and I was wondering if its possible to go an inch wider tire, 20X11R9. Anybody with helpful knowledge would be appreciated.

Yes, you can go wider. Alot of people run 20x11x9 rears.

i just bought some new rear ITP G.N.C.C. Tires off of www.motorsport.com and they were $180. they are 20/11/9. i have not used them yet because i want to run them in spring, summer, fall..... i have some verry nice ITP Mud-Lites on their not and have been running them for about a year now, there great! i am studding them for the ice this winter.

the only number u need to mach is the last number."9" which is the rims size 20x10r9 20 is how big the tire is.20 inches tall the 10 is how wide the tire is 10 inches wide most tires you will buy that arnt stock are 11 inches wide and again the 9 in the size of the wheel/rim

yeah I understand that part - & thank you.
but, isn't a tire designed to fit onto a certain size rim/wheel? after you stretch a 20X14R9 tire onto a 8" wide wheel it is probably not going to keep the bead sealed or will look funny? I was wondering if people have taken a 20X11R9(11" wide?) tire and put onto a 10" wide wheel. or how far can you stretch out the tire width over the wheel size? - understand me? thanks much!

yeah don't worry about it. When i had my 400ex I had the old holeshot HD tires on it and they were 20x12.5x9 on the stock wheels. they they will be fine. people do it all the time!

Also I am considering going from a 20" rear tire to a 18". Anyone with this experience?
Do you lose a lot of speed? Do you gain a lot of torque? Does it look or handle bad?

I am considering going to Maxxis RAZR MX 18X10R9 or Maxxis Razr 20x11x9
from a Dunlop KT355-A 20X10R9. Any advise? Thanks much!

It kind of depends what kind of riding you plan on doing to determine what size tire would be be best for you.

mainly just trail riding with the family, not racing, putting around neighborhood alley. cost and tread lasting awhile are at the top of requirements

you would be better with 20 inch tires you still can ride trails with 18's just got to keep a sharper eye out for rocks and crap sence your alot lower to the ground
i would suggest maxxis razr 2 they last for ever and get realy go traction

I agree 100% 20"s are def. the way to go if you are not doing a full mx setup. As far as which tires to go with like said before Razr 2 are nice but they are pricey. The original razr can be bought on fleebay for around $120 a pair and still are a awesome tire.

razr 2 rears have so much bite that their slide-ability isn't the greatest. another option is gbc x-rex tires, look like razr 2's but not quite as aggressive. i think they are the next tires i'm going to get front and rear
