the motor is 440 CC.i thought you might need to know that, with plenty of bore left you could make it a 490 CC

that OE honda trans holds up to the 440? how often do you change the gears or rebuild the motor?

ive bent one shift fork due to landing on the shifter after a 65 foot table.that happens when you wear a size 13 boot, like i said thats my fault.other than that the tranny holds up just fine(remember its a 250r tranny ,not a 450r tranny)LOL.its only a 440cc on a cylinder thats capable of being a 490cc,so no overheating so dependabilty is not a problem.i ran two seasons at a local TT track before replacing the top end,and only did it then to be on the safeside.i gave my old piston to a boy down the road to put in his polaris trail blaser 400 and its still running.(his family doesnt have alot of money so i helped him out).

yeah i know what you mean...

did you run tt or mx or both with it? what is it ported for? i just cant get over how 330s and 350s run youkons and this oe has held up... im not doubting you i just find it mind bobbleing...

i ran both TT and MX.porting is for top end and mid range, with 440cc it already has plenty of bottom end.we've built 4 polonda motors and never had tranny problems.

not to change what this thread is for but how does that conversion work....does the head and cylinder mount right up to the bottom end or is there machining involved.....and all the cylinder and head is is a scramber 400?

the cases have to be milled out, the stroke is the same with both the polaris 400L and the 250r, 72mm? the mounting holes are also off, you have to mill them out alittle, they are too far apart on the cylinder... you can move the studs or the bore the holes over, some times like on the rotax cylinders they move the studs but they dont have to on the polanda, some people also weld in a shim so the front mount on the cyl would be the same as the 250r cylinder(the polaris front studs are much shorter, the lobes are about a half inch thick as on the trx they are abou 1 and a half...

so people run KTM Connecting rods and stuff like that, also run some other pistons other then the polaris...

oh and yes its a srambler cyl, you can use any year 400L cylinder but for some unknown reason polaris change the angle of the reeds, the 97 sport is diff then a the 4x4 exploer...

i grenaded 2nd gear into 20 pieces a year into my 265R... granted that was mostly dune riding and lots of dragging starting in 2nd gear, but that is also a 265 compared to a 400+ cc motor

you can trash a tranny in anything,i trashed a tranny in a dirtbike once and it was only a -125-.you have to think positive(or ride like a sissy *** girl)LOL.all bull**** aside ive never had a problem with any trannies in our polonda motors we have built.;)

i know what you mean... its also with how your clutching... there was a kid that had a 250x, the day he got it it was MINT like brand new, the day he sold it, she wasnt worth 500 bucks, the trans just chopped in and out, it was bad... you could feel it the most in 3rd... from 2nd to 3rd... he never clutched or lifted just pinned the whole time and beat the **** out of it...

all i have left is the motor and frame.so no way to hear it run(and for that i apologize).but i can assure you that the motor runs perfect.my father is a very well known engine builder, and a sponcer of the SSQSA series, and the sponcer cup series which is strictly pro am riders.(so our reputation is on the line)and he built this motor.new top end, crank, bearings and seals.1.5 hrs on motor.still needs break in time.my job prohibits me from racing anymore, and thats the reason for selling out.our website is

what cylinder did you use, off what quad and a year... i thought they were all the same but i geuss there are different ones... the reed port is at a different angle on some... i only know this because i got a polaris big boss and i couldnt get the carb in there with the one cylinder so i really had to fight with it to get it in there... its just afew * different but it still makes a difference...
