link doesn't work for me either... its not a new disign is it? i thought they were gonna redesign it in 2014 for the 50th anniversery. and idk about a 5.0... i still don't see why they didnt start putting the 5.4s in the GTs in '05  the 4.6 is a good motor but a little underpowered compared to whats out there now. i think they should start putting the gt500 engine in all the GTs except minus the eaton.

nevermind i found it... 5.0 does sound badass. i read somewhere it said 400hp.

also found more about it... a 315 horse 3.7 v6, a 6 speed in the 5.0 and a special edition 2012 Boss :D

That would be dumb considering the engine in the 500's are built for boost. That car would make trash for power without the eaton. It's like taking a diesel and removing the turbo's.

Just bump the compression up to about 11:1.

Thing is, if you decided to put a blower back on it, you'd either have to settle for low boost PSI, or tear the engine apart and go to a lower compression ratio.

Indeed so. But this is a new picture.

I bet this setup would be good for 12s if given the right gears and tires? Possibly a tune? :eek2:

How many of those 400 horse cars can have a chip, pulley swap, and tune and be close to 700hp though?

Exactly. The 03/04's respond SO well to bolt-ons. That's the biggest reason people love them. I'll bet that 400 horse GT won't make 600 horse with just bolt-ons. It would need internals and alot of money. Cobra's on the other hand, throw a Kenne Bell or whipple on it with a tune and exhaust and you're making 600+ depending on your boost level and tune.

But you got to admit, this new GT is badass. Just think what the new cobras will be like. Rumors like a TT 6.2l, how F'n sick would that be?

12-27-2009, 04:19 PM
Cobra's do not exist anymore. :o They're Shelby's now. lol.

Edit- I also can't admit they're bad *** because they're not IMO. I'd take any camaro over a mustang with the exception of the 03/04 cobra.

Shelbys/Cobras, same thing basically.

They're not badass? Why not?

12-27-2009, 08:22 PM
It's definitely cool, but really not all that special. The standard corvette C6 (Not Z06 or ZR1) has the same amount of power and handles just as good.

Nice to see the 5.0 make a comeback though.:)

your right but for the pony cars its special, especially the mustangs. Finally the gt stands a chance against the camaros and challengers. Amd with the z28 coming out, I can only imagine what they'll do with the cobra.

speaking of the new z28, why is the z more hp than the ss? the ss was always the top dog of chevy models:confused:

Wrong. Z/28 was top dog until the 4th gen camaro's. The Z/28's were built for racing where as the SS was for the everyday driver. I don't want to see specs of an SS having more horsepower, because it usually had options for more power because the Z/28's were always built for road racing.

It's nice to see Chevy going back to their roots with this one.

ford had to kick it up so they wernt the slowest modern aged muscle car around.

Yeah, and the C6 starts at 49k, while the Mustang starts at 31k, quite the price difference.

They are not the slowest now. I just did a little searching around for quarter mile times on the net, the Camaro looks to be the fastest, followed by the 2010 Mustang, then the Challenger. (The Challenger looks cool, but it appears to be a slow heavy tank.)

The Mustang as been around since the 60's. The Camaro disappeared for a whlie, while the Challenger was gone for a long time. Mustang kept the muscle car alive. Do you really think there would be a Camaro and Challenger today if the Mustang disappeared years ago?

I think Ford should just man up and throw a 5.4 in the Mustang and be done with it.:D

Historically the SS always had more HP than the Z-28, but the Z-28 was built for handling.

I still want a Cobra-R with the 5.4, probably never happen tho.

yea i saw 310 somewhere now too. so we'll call it a 305-315 hp v6 lol. but seriously look at the v6s now. i can't believe the power they're getting out of the 6s compared to what they used to. a 305hp 3.6 in the camaro. over 300 in the new mustang. 290 in the 3.8 genesis. 330 in the 3.7 370z. theres more out there too.

i'm a huge mustang fan and i will admit the 260 in the old GTs and then what like 315 in the '05 and up GTs is a little embarassing. there was no happy medium. either you have the 260hp GT or go all out and get the 400hp termi. then the 315hp newer GT or the 550hp GT500. its about time they get some decent numbers out of the GT.

Dont mistake this new engine. This little engine is a bad mf'r. The technology of the intake and cylinder head design has been used in a lot of the V6's to date, and now mated with a few more CI its gonna be a beast. The NMRA EFI renegade racers are already trying to get thier hands on one. The current record holder in that class is a friend of mine and just lives up the street....if they are hunting one down, you know they are bad news.
