Yeah that's how its supposed to be. You bought the kit instead of the ready to ride package so you just have to arrange those pieces so it makes a complete circle and you'll be good to go.

450r clutch plates come in Puzzle form ???
how the heck are you supposed to remember which piece goes where?
400ex clutch's are much simpler than that !

haha, so many times have i heard! "wow i've never seen that before!" lol. i guess i need to flush out my trans because i'm sure some puzzle pieces are missing! not sure if it messed up the basket or hub, i'll take a closer look tomorrow and update. but i know for fact i need new clutch plates :D lmao!

the clutch doesnt look all that bad heat wise. i doubt the damage was due to overheating, check your basket and inner hub for grooves, you might have grooved it to the point where they were getting hung up so bad that it snapped them, once one crack happens the rest will quickly follow

baskets arent that expensive really, if you do go with aftermarket, get a wiseco, they are stronger then hinson because they are forged and not billet

Ijust found a plate in the same condition on my 450R. One plate. the rest were fine, and that was with a fresh Hinson basket that is not grooved up, and a semi new inner hub and what not. Ijust replaced the one plate.

About the 2 mile marker, I heard a little clicking, almost like the fan was barely running and hitting something. It never got any worse, but I finished the race, got home and pulled the clutches apart, expecting to find that the basket bolts had tried to back out or somthing. Then I found the plate. 6 pieces. Just one plate though.

thats exacly the same with me, first i though a leaf or something was in the fan, then i pulled the cover off and check the 6 bolts holding in the basket, then i found the plates. so weird!

Nothing odd about it. The one I had in my 400ex done the same thing. They just wear out after time if not changed on a regular basis or at least inspected for chipping/cracking fibers. When mine went, there was no slow drop. I was heading down a hill in 3rd, shifted to 4th and started up another hill. I found it odd to down shift since the ground was dry just to make it up. She went out as fast as it took me to order another one and have it in. They really do need checked often if your putting in long riding times at once.
