I started the project a few days ago. My first two questions are:

1. The 350X carb sits too high, what modifications need to occur to fit the tank on?
2. How and where to place the oil cooler on the frame?

your gonna want to cut the frame and extend it +2 in the front so you dont need to cut up the pipe.

as for the carb, most custom atv builders use rad. hose from napa and make custom adaptors.

i know a guy who could tell you every move to do this right.

contact www.hreatv.com him and his 2 friends i know use to build them all the time correctly and race them.

I did this hybrid 8 months ago and i had no problem with the stock gas tank to fit and what i did with the oil cooler is cut the steel lines mount the cooler in the front right below the front fender mount and run 3/8 gas line

The tank fits, there was a rubber mount stuck wrong and prevented tank from sitting correctly.

I used 3/8 trans oil line and mounted on the right side. Its held with zip ties for now to see if needs moved later.

I am also doing this swap as money allows. There is alot of info on 3wheelerworld.com about this. Keep the pictures coming.
How are you doing your electrical? I am trying to use the 250X parts and am having a hard time.

I will be using a complete 350X electrical system.

You can use the 250x wiring harness. but you will need a 350x cdi box. only thing you need to do is the two wires that plug into the cdi box swap them around

To me looks like your oil lines will be to close to your head pipe. becouse it wraps around that way. and will the cooler be in the way of your front fender?

I would get a 250r hood quadtech and mount the oil cooler behind the hole. You could make some suports out of thin gauge metal or thick aluminum. If you start looking now you might find an exhaust next year under $300. or you can make your own out of a 400 or 350x exhaust.

I checked and will clear the header pipe. I will move later if necessary. The fenders should work they are the race cut but not here yet for me to check.

I have the powroll header pipe and was thinking of using a 450R exhaust I already have.

I couldn't think of the name last night but that is it powroll. Their exhaust online new is like $625 if you buy it from them. Sounds like you have about everything you need.

I installed a 300EX steering stem (with new bearing) and 400EX A-arms on. But I think the tie rods are a little bent. I think I will continue on and keep a list of things to switch out later.

Also waiting on the relocator bracket before installing 400EX front shocks.

WoW $625 dollars for a exhaust pipe!!! I went to the local muffler shop and he built my exhaust for $50 dollars and he used 1 1/4 pipe and i used the slip on muffler i had.

I worked on the rear end attempting to line up the chain just to see how off it was. I do not see how it can line up. Does anyone know what needs to be done?

The motor is solid in the frame and the swingarm is solid. Where is the 1/2 inch (im guessing about) made up? I even tried a 450r swingarm, both swingarms fit snug in frame.

i have tie rods if you need them.

Are the tie rods for a 400EX?

I think I have the swingarm issue figured out. I will update later.

Installed the 300ex pivot sleeve into Lonestar swingarm and the 450R swingarm lined up better. Also, made a bracket to hold 300ex shock. Will possibly revisit bracket after rest of build is complete.

That braket looks like its going to make the shocks stiff. its not in its orginal geometry for the shocks to work correctly like on the 400ex frame. i would of welded new brackets.

the correct trick to using 400a-arm is using banshee shocks to line it all back up right then ya dont need that sheet metal mount hahaha.

Keep them pics coming! Lets see more of that swingarm. also what did you do to mount the linkage to the frame. Can we get a good pic of that.

dagger350

I believe the top setting on the bracket might work better. Until I can get out on the track I wont be able to tell how stiff the setup is for the suspension.

I took a engine mount from a 200X and wedge it in the swingarm and secured it with bolts. I dont have a welder so I improvised a temporary setup until it warms up to take bike to buddy for welding.

I hate to say it but I think he is right about the shock mount. The more straight up an down your shocks are the less leverage your a-arms will have on them and it will be a very stiff ride. There were several people on here saying the 400 setup is junk and to stiff, Im going to guess they used the same relocator braket. Probly the one from ebay right? I made my own mount. The shocks eyelets stick out about an inch past the stock frame mounts, and about 3 1/4" above the stock mount on mine. The ebay mount pushes the mounts out about 3" and is only about 2" above the stock mount, which makes the front sit way too high and when you turn the ty rods pull up on the suspension. Also I would look into getting a 250r rear shock and making a frame mount for the link. Or stick to nolink and get a 660 craptor shock 2001.

I figuring on finishing up the build and testing the suspension out. I'm sure There will be more to do after initial build. I also have an electric starter to attempt to put on after initial biuld.

I attempted a 450R/300EX blend on the axle and it worked. The 300EX lock nut, brake and rotor and hubs fit snug on the stock 450R axle. The brake rotor needed spaced over to line up the 300EX caliper.

Yes, but when you sit down it levels off. I can work on it after I get the front brakes to work. Still having problems bleeding front lines.

Got all the brakes bled finally. I started the bike and runs great. I will be putting the chain on and a 450R muffler. Hope to take out this week.

Took bike out for a test ride. Biggest problem is the throttle is too stiff. Its a 400EX carb and cable. I looked around on the internet a little and I think it is the spring on the carb with too much pressure to return to normal.

Has anyone changed out this spring or have any ideas?

stuntin andy
03-16-2010, 08:11 AM
i would think they are naturally stiffer then the 300 one being its a bigger carb. =o i guess that would mean a bigger sppring.... im not sure though nice bike my the way >.< i wanna make mine a 350 also haha

QuadCobbler
03-16-2010, 10:13 AM
I didn't notice any differance from my 300 carb to the 400 carb as far as the spring tension. I would look at your cable and make sure it isn't binding up, or kinked. Also check inside the thumb throtel.

stuntin andy
03-16-2010, 11:34 AM
yah or lube the cable there are these really cool tools that u clamp on to the cable and spary yout lube of choice into the cable. we had to do it to my buddys clutch and is soooo much smoother:eek2:

I worked on the carb this week and the cable is not the problem. The two springs on the carb are just really stiff. After messing with it a little I decided i didnt want to brake anything. So, I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner and then wd40 the spring parts.
It did not do much to help the stiff throttle. I researched a little and there is a spring mod that can be done to help.

For now here is a video of the bike running after I put it back together.

I was able to lower the bike with moving to the higher front hole on the shock relocator and going back to the 300ex rear shock. Bike runs and handles great.

Over this coming winter plans are to:
1) add +2 400ex arms
2) maybe change gearing
2) go with aftermarket shocks.
4) install electric starter
