are you telling me that taking the lid off lets that much more air into the motor???? I find that hard to believe!!! not doubting you, but that is a big difference!!! Thats a pretty poor airbox design if it chokes the motor that much!
yeah their all that restrictive it to make sure water dose not get into the intake unless you completly submerge it

to get it to run with the lid off your going to have to rejet ,i sujest you get a 142.5 main jet if your using the stock muffler .
and wile your at the steallership get a #25 pilot jet to ,its to save your self a trip. the more mods you do the more jetting your going to have to do

ok guys...jets on the way...just never thought a gutting job would result in such drastic results...i could see a piston getting burnt out from being too lean , but for it to be so lean that it cuts out after removing the air box lid that is crazy...I guess after it is properly jetted you really see a difference over stock!!!

hp is addicting and i can see you have got the bug.
before i did any, what i call major mods, i had gotten 40 hp from my z ,(mostly because i do my own work )after that it really starts to get expensive to get more HP
i hope to be up over 50 by this spring
