250x gear shift problem

has anybody had an issue with the gear shift drum - ratchet paws not allowing the gear selector to shift through the gears? I just rebuilt engine, mounted engine in quad, and realized I can't shift gears. I took off left case cover, removed gear selector-ratchet mechanism-drum still can't find issue. I think maybee the shift drum is not seating deep enough were it needs to go, causing the ratchet paws to make contact with ratchet retaining plate. anybody? thank you ahead of time.

Sounds like you have a gear, or fork, in wrong on the trans.

The quad is up and running now. I reversed the ratchet paws on the shift drum opposite of what the manual says. I rode the quad for a little bit, and the shifter is operating great.
