They actually changed more than that, but it just depends on what you want to do with your fourwheeler. I still run 05s, and will continue to do so until I can no longer find them in good shape. When that's over, I will start running 06 ups with a few things from my 05s switched over, and not think twice about it.

from what ive heard some people have had tranny problems with 06+ models so that is why some racers run 05s
i just bought a 2007 but im sending the tranny to motoexperts to get there mod done

a 04/05 and 06+ are two completely different bikes. You can swap a decent amount of stuff between them. The parts that can't be swapped is the chassis, motor(everything), grab bar and some small parts. The carb can be swapped w/ mods, spindles will(I don't see why anybody would want to put 06+ spindles on anything) and a-arms will(caster/camber and steering will be decently off). 1/4 the parts are almost exactly the same, mostly brake parts, wheels, bars, controls, plastic and seat.

The engines are completely different. A few minor things like cams can be swapped between the engine years but every part is different.
Most people don't realize how different the engines are.

motors can be swapped between the 2 models, you just need the motor mounts off of whatever year motor you are using

Any year Honda 450R can be made into a good bike. There are no bad years that you don't want to buy, so I'd buy whatever you happen to find.

the swingarm is longer on the 06 which is a good thing.

the a arms are a different geometry that most dont like do to it turns slower. most guys who run 06 and up put an 05 front end on it.

i have a 05 and i run an 06 swingarm and i love it. more stable
